Glove compartment pockets

Any speculation on what we're supposed to put into those pockets in the glove compartment door?

I tired fitting the owners manual but it’s too big lol. Maybe sunglasses?

Haha! I've thought this on multiple occasions but never came to any conclusion other than the designer of the door has a specific need for pockets of those sizes for something. I'm glad I'm not alone in having questioned their use!

OBD connector/dongle/whatever for Bimmercode and I'm not sure what else. Maybe a pen.

My OBD module has a spot in the tool cabinet. It also works for my Beemer.

You would assume anal German designers/engineers would have a purpose for a pocket if their design included one. Just willy-nilly distributing pockets, here and there, seems wrong. Similar to the maximum cup-holder design philosophy for minivans/SUV's

I tend to find it's a good place for a spare house key after the wife has had enough of Sunday becoming nothing more than a car cleaning club with the lads on the street 🪣🧼 🍻👍🏻

What? There's a receptacle for the flashlight in there? Now, I'm pissed. I used the same BMW flashlight in three different 3-series, but let it go with my trade-in for the 330e.
