I agree and hopefully that isn’t the case. It didn’t pick up the single camera near my home but it’s been out of action for years so maybe that’s why.

I had to reboot my idrive before it would appear in apps.

Tested it just now. It picked up two out of two cameras on my way. No need to set any destination. Map wasn't even on during this test. I don't have HUD and the warning just appeared on the dash and replaced current widget. You can dismiss this by pressing BC button if you like.

On my way to work today I pass 4-5 cameras and it flashed up on the HUD with no route guidance set.

The main power on/off (/volume) button.

If you have HUD I think it defaults to there as I can't find the option to have it in the instrument cluster. Personally prefer it in the HUD as it's more in my line of sight.
As previously said, works with or without route guidance.

Without engine on BUT WITH ignition on.

At least, that's how I always end up doing it - I don't think it works while the screen is just showing the standby stuff.

Ordered evening of 22nd, tried today on my way to work in my G22 M440i and it picked up all cameras without Nav guidance on. Alert came up in HUD, no audible warning, just the symbol with a distance countdown under it. Can't see any way to configure to show in dash, but I prefer it in the HUD, so all good.

In one of the menus there's a "Route Warnings" option, which has choice of HUD or Instrument Cluster. Think it was in Car -> Settings -> Display

It works well for me - picked up all the fixed cameras on a 140 mile trip, including new average speed ones that are only 3 months old.

Weird that there's no option to set an audible alert though, which would have been sensible..... 🙄

Mine has finally sprung into life on the way home from the pub - happy days.

It is currently showing info on the dash display but I would prefer it to show on HUD so will give this a go in the morning - thanks for the pointer

As mentioned by willougs, it’s the Route Warnings setting that decides whether to show it in the Cluster or HUD.

my appeared in i-drive/apps menu within 5 minutes of buying it. Will test it on way home from work in the morning(few of them on my route).

Purchased on Thursday at around 5pm and it appeared in my apps around 5pm on Friday following a restart of the idrive system.

The camera warnings appear in the HUD whilst I'm just driving around so its not dependent on me setting a route.

So far its been accurate with the cameras around my town.. hopefully its the same deal when I eventually venture a little further to areas I'm unfamiliar with.

Mine went straight to the HUD. Warnings appear to match my TomTom stand alone sat nav accurately which is good. I wish you could configure an audio warning too and show then on the cars map?
