Tyre wear on i4 e40 - recommendations for replacements

My i4 e40 is circa 12k miles since I picked it up in May this year. It came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres all round (255/40 R19 100Y rears, 245/40 R19 98Y fronts), but on checking them today, the rears are probably about 2k from wearing out.

I drive in eco-pro mode all the time, mostly on decent roads/dual carriageways, and certainly don't 'boot it' when pulling away, so I'm pretty unimpressed with this type of wear.

Has anyone found better tyres to put on the i4, with better wear? I used to use Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 on my 330e which I had from new for 2 years until earlier this year. That car also came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 from new, so I'm tempted to go to Goodyear again unless anyone can recommend better?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm haven't had them on an EV, but have had them on my E90 335 and my X5.

I really like Continental DWS 06. They should come in that size. They grip well and are quiet even when worn.

Will be interesting to see how many miles M50 owners get on tires. My i4 has 2400 miles on it, and already has significant tread wear.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport are generally good in most conditions and wear well.

That is the $1 Million question.

Tomorrow starts week 12 scheduled for production with no start.
Don't know what has delayed my car. I was a June 1, 2021 pre-order.
Actually Dec. 23 will mark a full year with a production number and no car.

We have a house bet of who gets their car first; my wife with her Fisker Ocean One or my M50. I'm betting on the Fusker showing up before my BMW.

BMW has been flawlessly incorrect about my car being built. Every date has been wrong. Everything associated with production schedule, time to wait, etc.; Has been wrong.
I haven't called the Genius because at this point it's a complete waste of time.

Anyway, you answer and my rant. 😂🤣😂🤣

Yeap, tire wear is a bitch on i4. I’ve driven 2400 miles already at 7/32.

Wow what the heck Can it be one specific option that holds up production, e.g. custom leather color?

i4 40 or M50? Did your tires start at 11/32? Max summer performance?

I know you want the car you ordered but have you looked into M50 available for sale? Demand has softened and I’ve seen a few that are available. Surely, the one you ordered matched 90% of what you want most M50 are pretty loaded. I would bail out at this point or look for another car altogether.

Leather was added in September after I had already slipped from an initial build week of 21 out to 42. Adding the leather slipped it to 47.

So it was already a 21 week slip.

No way I'm taking one off the lot.
1. The possibility of the tax credit only exists with the car on my VIR and finance term sheet.
2. 1.9% finance rate only exists with my pre-order
3. Price protection is only good for my pre-order
4. My car is tanzanite over tartufo full leather and all options including 20" wheels and at $80k+tax and fees; I want what I ordered.

I have passed on 3 other M50's for the above reasons.

Get an alignment and have them zero out the toe on all four corners. Both Michelin and Continental make good all season tires. The Michelins are usually better tires, I think, but the Continentals do last well and are cheaper.

Me? Once the Pzero rosso are gone, I'll probably get pilot sport 4, but I may have fun and get something autocross oriented.

The weight of the car and the instant torque of ev's makes them eat tires, however what seems to be really eating up my tires is the camber. Like all bmw's the tires wear on the edge but these have a definite flat section. I recommend keeping up with your tire pressure and doing nitrogen if possible (added benefit of always giving you best range) and when they wear out get a good high mileage tire that meets the load requirements. On my Tesla I did the pirelli cinturatos but looking at the chart here I'm not seeing a 225/50/18 that is xl rated so will have to go back to drawing board. I would look around for EV rated tires I did some research on my snows and they are awesome quiet and I'm still getting decent range (Michelin xice snow) I ve got 9500 on my car now so if my current driving habits stay unchanged I will be looking at tires next spring

Based on previous experience with bmw’s, I would do as suggested above. Take a bit of toe off the rear. It is what causes the faster wear vs the camber. Yes, camber can cause increased wear, but the toe is what really does it. I have done it on 3 different cars now and made my tires last much longer. But, even with that change, there is no escaping the weight and power of these cars. Unfortunately, we gotta pay to play. Personally, I wouldn’t go to a harder less performing tire. I want the feel of the better tires, and the increased safety margin with better braking performance.

Hypertrac All Season - Vredestein

Does anyone have experience with the Hypertrac All Season by Vredestein? Price at TR looks OK and Consumers Report rated it highly.

I have the same question! Someone will eventually take the plunge and test it out for all of us. For replacement of the Pirelli's that came on the car, the Vredestein was high on the list. The new Hankook EV tires also look intriguing. Also on my list were the Conti DWS 06+ and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.

DWS 06 are very good

I have had two sets if the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires. They are very good. Driving at 80 mph in heavy rain is no problem. Very stable and predictable. I loved them.
Consumers Report rated them below the Vrederstein tires.

Just looking into options.

I really like the DWS tires.

That's what I plan to run on my M50 when the factory gumballs wear out.

I can't imagine I'm going to get more than 14-20k miles, if that. I'm expecting to buy new tires before the one year anniversary of the car.

@4700lb-5000lb, the i4 eDrive 40 and M50 are like SUVs in weight, so it makes sense the tires get worn fast. So it is basically pay to play.

Low Rollong Resistance Tires

Are tires that have low rolling resistance better for increased miles and longer lasting tires? I would think so as there would be reduce scoffing and squirm.

I had the DWS06+ on my E91 and they were awesome, however they do not yet have a version that is EV optimized in terms of noise and rolling resistance, so I am loathe to put them on the i4.
