CarPlay weirdness?
2019 330i.
When using CarPlay and playing iTunes for music the << and >> controls on the steering wheel (right side) no longer work to move to previous/next song. They did as far as I remember, including after 11/2022 software update. Likely the change came in an iPhone update, Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a BMW or Apple thing? |

I don’t think it is either, I think it’s just your car having a hiccup.
Turn the car on and press and hold the volume button on the dash and don’t let go until the screen goes completely black. Then release the button. That will reboot the iDrive system and likely fix the problem. If that does not solve it hard reboot your iPhone. And of those two efforts don’t solve it, delete your iPhone from iDrive, delete the car from iPhone settings, reboot both devices, and then re-pair them and that should do it. |

Restarting my phone solves 90% of my CarPlay problems. The last 10%…I restart the radio. When I had my pixel phones I never had issues with Android auto :/
Remember, CarPlay is run off the phone, not the head unit. The vehicle simply makes a handshake and hands over the resources to CarPlay to manage |

I've noticed this in my car. It would make sense it came from an iPhone update as it wasn't really that present before a few months ago. It's like Carplay is 90% connected. You can skip songs obviously the screen itself and the touch dial (whatever it's called). If it really bothers you disconnect your phone and reconnect via idrive and it always fixes the problem

iPhone weirdness - fixed
Thanks to all.
Reboot audio with Volume control appeared to help. Worked today. Sometimes I think modern cars do not need mechanics, but exorcists. |

I am having a similar problem ever since my iDrive7 was updated to 11/2023.50 last weekend. The BMW NAV system keeps wanting to navigate to m y home regardless of what I am doing. It is seemingly random but tends to happen when I pick up my phone and access it.
I even went so far as to turn off CarPlay and was using the BMW nav to get to another destination. The pop up is still happening. Annoying.

Edit - Spoke too soon. After 3 days, the crap started again. Annoying.

Damn, did you try the other step- deleting the iPhone from iDrive and deleting the BMW from iPhone Bluetooth settings?

It’s the phone. I’ve been getting blank screens for CarPlay. Restart the phone and it’s fixed. I really wish Apple would throw more qa/qc into the product

Everything worked perfectly until BMW pushed out the 11.2023 update to my car.

I can usually guarantee a problem when I start the car soon after parking. I’ve made it a habit to restart my phone on the way back to my car and I’ve had almost zero issues that way |

I've got a 15, sporadically when I enter the car and connect automatically to CarPlay I get a black screen. Maybe once a week, or three times per month. Toggling the wi-fi and Bluetooth on/off on the iPhone corrects it. I have not found a fix beyond that.
Another thing that is strange is that if I am in CarPlay and put the car in Reverse to back out of the driveway, when I put it back in Drive the screen defaults back to the fugly BMW home screen and not the CarPlay screen where I was. Does this happen to you too? |
