Trunk kick open stopped working

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this feature to work again? It seemed like a silly feature when I first got my car but my wife and I got use to using it and it comes in handy when your arms are full.

However, for some reason it stopped working out of the blue and I can figure out why. Doesn’t work if the car is clean or dirty and I’ve never been rear ended. I called the dealership where we bought it and they had no real suggestions.
Thanks.

It can be a little fussy sometimes. For what it's worth I'd make sure your key battery is in good condition, and it seems to like a straight, relatively slow kick motion kind of to the right of the driver's side exhaust tips. You can always use a scan tool to see if anything shows up too, I would think iDrive would alert to any issues but maybe not for that system.

Does it flat-out not work, or does it simply not work sometimes? I ask because when my wife had her 330i, the trunk kick-to-open functionality failed altogether. We had to have the controller for it replaced (under warranty, car only had about 3,000 miles on it at the time).

I would second scanning for bmw specific trouble codes. I bet it will show up. Whether it’s worth fixing is another story. I probably wouldn’t pay to fix that.
