What is this screen looking thing?

I have like a screen looking thing on left (drivers side) side of the dash board above the vent. It looks like it could be a screen for warning lights or something but I have never seen it turn on.

The black piano black bit is just trim.

I thought it was the sensor for the auto dimming of the interior display lights. Some people complained that some window tints affect this sensor. I could be wrong.

On my 2020 M340i, i think that sensor was next to the volume knob.

It is the sensor for the dash lights you are correct in all counts.

No this piece has nothing to do with interior light brightness. Its a simple plastic piece. Interior dash brightness is determined by two sensors on either side of the digital cluster, which ive attached.
