Not really. F82's steering is better than E92's steering. It has a better weight, and it's not to quick off center like E92.

I'd probably say yes, this is the last M3/4 with a manual. The reason isn't just the poor uptake rate but the evolution of the drivetrain. I'd expect the next M3/4 to have a downsized version of the S55 with a KERS system for torque fill and outright power (eg Porsche 918). A manual gearbox would not be a viable option for such a system.
I hadn't owned a automatic/DCT car till I bought my old e92 M3. Now, I won't buy a car that I intend to daily drive without a DCT/auto. Most performance cars (including the M3/4) have gotten so fast and so advanced that a manual doesn't suit the characteristics of the cars and their engines any more. |

While many manufacturers are no longer offering MTs Jaguar is going in the other direction and has announced that the previously AT only F-Type will be available with an MT.
I suspect that the take rate for MTs on the M cars will continue to decline but BMW will continue to offer then until it drops to almost zero, Offering the M3/4 with an MT is good PR for BMW even if it is not particularly profitable,

I have never owned a automatic car and I live in NYC. I know I am the minority but we are a generation away from no more manuals IMO. 3 pedals is a requirement on every car I buy, but I know that it will not be the case for much longer.

There is no 6MT in the word either
Any claims that enthusiasts only buy 6MTs is just silly and most know it. Choosing a 6MT does seem to enhance one's online e-peen in the eyes of 6MT owners . 26 years of driving only MT cars and years on the track in those cars and I decided to move on to something different... so I guess to some that would infer that I'm not an enthusiast any longer. I can live with the judgement and I'm OK with it

If you don't think 6MT drivers are the "real" enthusiasts, than why do you feel it necessary to fall back on your 26 years of driving manuals for credibility in your post? Wooaaaaah! Also, maybe you're just getting old, and loosing your "enthusiast" edge? Back probably hurts, knees going bad, misplacing your keys in the fridge, forgetting to upshift ... so now you get a 7 speed butler to do the shifts for you??? I'm just teasing. DCT drivers are people too. |

Also if you write ENTHUSIAST in caps, flip it upside down and read it backwards n the mirror it says 6SPDMANUAL. Try doing that with just 3 letters! |

Creepy analogies aside, I agree. I was just having some fun. Thank for being a good sport. I've been driving manuals my whole life, and one single test drive in the DCT turned my whole world upside down. Keep in mind, that I had a ZF8 auto 335i at some point, and could not stand it. It was such a perfect transmission and so excellent at what it does, but just did not do it for me. With the DCT however, I was completely impressed. I came away from that experience with much more respect for the DCT, and find it very hard to criticize anyone who leaves a manual behind for that kind of performance. I secretly sometimes wonder if I should have ordered my f80 with a DCT, but I guess I still have a few years of MT in me. If they force it on us, and the day comes when BMW only offers the ZF8 auto and DCT in their cars, I will not be the first one to complain. As long as they offer us a "superior" alternative (I know, highly subjective and debatable), I am OK with that. I they take away the 6MT, but offer us a buttery smooth and incredibly competent ZF8 ... or in the case of M cars, a lightning quick, and sledge hammer kick in the back of your seat, high performance MDCT ... well, I can make peace with that. |

F80 Last Manual M3?!?!
So this evening I placed my order for a Euro Delivery M3 (for later this summer) & the dealership General Manager comes over to say congratulations that I'll have one of the last 6-speed manual M3s ever made.
I kinda chuckled and said sure there are rumors, but we'll have to wait until the next generation M3 comes out. He said straight up that it is not rumors anymore as at a recent meeting he was personally told by BMW North America that the next generation M3 will NOT offer a manual option!!! I know there are a lot of people on this forum with better connections and knowledge. Is this true? Would GM's know this already? Or is he just trying to make me feel good as part of the purchase? I already signed the paperwork, so I have no idea why he would lie? Just wanting to see if anyone else has heard anything on the matter. If true it is sad days coming..... R.I.P. manual gearboxes |

Over the years, I have been truly unimpressed with the knowledge of dealerships. It's too bad BMW doesn't give them more accurate information.
As your surmise, we don't know...but most of us still hope that at least the next generation M3/4 will have a MT option. Beyond that, I agree we're beating a dead horse. At that point, used BMWs or Porsche it is! Or...for my DD I just may give in a buy an electric car. For some reason, the lack of a MT seems less of an issue to me in an electric car; it's just a different experience.
