Guess which market this vehicle will never see? That's right. North America.

Find it really weird that people actually like these and would ever want to mix straight up utility with outright performance. There is nothing appealing about an ugly wagon, aside from the M engine of course.

In Europe, Audi and Mercedes sell tons of RS3, 4, 6, C63, ... in « touring » versions...
Not all countries are the same, we don't have pick ups that weight 10'000 lb here... |

It's interesting that this discussion is being made especially since I know that a high powered M Touring was very much being considered under the outgoing M CEO. Recently they did disclose at the reveal of the M8 Coupe that they were investigating options for segments that M were not present in. I took it to be an M4 Gran Coupe as we might see one this time around.
They would talk about how that at Ski resorts in France,Switzerland,Austria and Italy you could see the typical Performance SUV but also performance wagons or kombi's such as Alpina B3/D3 and B5/D5, Audi RS4 and RS6 and the Mercedes AMG C63 and E63. So essentially it would be good to see a BMW M Touring with skis or indeed snowboards on the roof. Personally I hold out for an M5 Touring which some say is actually one of the reasons why M xDrive was developed. Since the G21 is not being offered in the US. This would hypothetically also mean an M3 Touring would not be considered. And why the X3M and X3M Competition will be more tailored to North American customers.

Sure, it's awesome that they'd even consider producing an M3 Touring, but those of us in the US have no right to complain when it inevitably doesn't come here. Enthusiasts love wagons, but the fact of the matter is that they don't buy enough *new* to justify bringing it here. Everyone's waiting for used models to hit the market, which doesn't drive BMW's sales department. Hence, they're cutting the G21 from the US market all together.

M3 Touring about time BMW!!!
M3 Touring about F'ing time BMW!!!
BMW what have you been waiting for all these years? Throw in M xDrive, now we truly have a dilemma. M3 Touring with M xDrive, X4M with M xDrive, M4 with M xDrive. That is the dilemma I liked to have! It must be brought to the United States and Canadian marketplace! BMW does listen if you push them hard enough to hear you. Last edited by DCG; 10-30-2018 at 07:37 PM.. |

I did. Also the Subaru Outback is effectively a wagon and sells like crazy... but it's also one of the original crossovers too.
I agree though the US market is suv crazy... a lot of salon/sedans are being killed off.

The 4 series GC and the Wagon look better than the 3 sedan. Of course that's just my opinion.

If there's a market for 3 Series GT, 5 Series GT and 6 Series GT for the north american market, why there's no market for an M3 Wagon?

I thought the Mx3MxdriveM SAV( SUV) or whatever was the M3 wagon!
Anyway, I would love an M3 xdrive wagon! That way I could really tick the guys off at the "track day events". Probably can't think of anything worse for a Ferrari nubie than getting passed by a well driven wagon. Maybe get it re-badged 318 for fun. |
