The larger tailgate opening of the GC is far more practical when you have something big to stick in the trunk. That's my primary reason for wanting one.

Why even have a Gran Coupe? It doesn't look that much different than the sedan. Is the front going to be different at all or is it just the trunk?

Erm... I don't know... Is it a hatchback... A coupe... A sedan... Or is it simply an attempt to compete with MB and Audi for a frankly useless segment?

How about a G21?

I see your point but what exactly is so big that you really should be using a truck or SUV for anyway? On that front, I remember when I bought my truck. I told myself that I would be able to haul anything at any time. Trouble is, the frequency for which that happens is very seldom.

Might as well be an Audi. Audis have large grilles, boring taillights and no hoffmeister kink.

Because the A5/S5 Sportback is selling like hotcakes. Also, people like the sportier sloping roofline of the Gran Coupe. Why do you think cars like the X4 M and X6 M exist?

To be fair, the grille on an Audi doesn't look like a butt imprint.

Because I don’t want old boring tiny kidney grills and boring traditional sedan design, but I love how m340i drives. So, M440i is for me. I’m sure there are others like me.

Well I've had both F30 and F36 - to me there is a big difference in look and feel

This face will grow on people I tell you.

I keep having visions of a 4 series wagon. I wonder what that would look like.

I might start playing around with Photoshop haha

This is going to look a lot different from the 3er since the 4er family is going to have a dramatically different face. But unfortunately the GC is going to look more like a Gran-Tourer than a Gran Coupe :/

Agreed. I like the G26 proportions but I prefer the design cues on my F36 - especially the Hofmeister kink and grill.

Grill is starting to grow. Still think that hoodline messes up the entire look. All black will definitely suit this car.

So many spy photos in Bimmerpost news these days: G22, G26, G80, G82, LCI F90 and G30... Are camouflages becoming face masks for cars during these special times?

Precisely my point. This is my only vehicle, and I much prefer to drive a car most of the time with a sleek body style and low center of gravity. The hatchback/sportback allows me to cram larger items in when necessary, which isn't that often. I was able to stick two giant washer/dryer pedestal boxes in my S5 Sportback, and there's *no way* that would have been possible with a regular trunk. As you say, I don't need it most of the time, but it's there when I need it.
