Nationwide Supply of M340i allocations breakdown

I just checked the nationwide supply of M340 allocations and the number sits at 366. Xdrive models are in short supply since the MX plant does not produce Xdrive M340s.

Here is how the numbers break down.

M340i German 8

M340i MX 266

M340i Xdrive 92

The southern region has 135 allocations

North East region has 49

Central Region has 23

The West Coast has 159

As you can see the warmer climate areas that don't "need" Xdrive are getting the bulk of the MX built M340s

Interesting. I thought all the M340i were built in Germany. Does anyone here have a MX built M340i?

I'm confused, I thought MX just meant RWD and Germany meant for ED?

I thought I read somewhere that m340 X drive or not were being made in Germany and later this year some would be made in Mexico. I believe it would be predicated on demand and production cycles of each plant. I know mine was made in Germany, M340 X drive. I kind of worry that quality may suffer a bit on the ones from Mexico, but I have nothing to base that on. So to the OP I guess if you want German made then get a X drive.

ps : I am very happy with my purchase.

I recently got my M340i, ordered in November and was produced in December. Made in Germany. No special color.

My dealership has 14 in stock (had 21 when I bought mine in November). They actually have less 330is.

What's the difference between German and X Drive numbers you have in the first post?

Maybe. Seems so low but you could be right. I can't believe how many allocations there are for Mexico built RWD M340i. I have yet to hear anyone on here that has one.

Maybe they’re planning on moving production of NA cars to MX. Germany can concentrate on Europe and RoW cars? Explains the low number of RWD from Germany and rest from MX.

Is this the number of total M340s since this last summer? I'm just trying to get perspective on the time frame. Thank you.

I'm guessing that Americans really want to get their cars from Germany over Mexico?

Reminds me of the kerfuffle when certain markets got the E46 generation from South Africa over Germany. In the end, the SA cars had lower quality control and fewer warranty issues over those that were made in Germany.

I hope not. I made sure my car was from Germany and not Mexico (vin with a W). Just my opinion and no offense to anyone but if I'm buying a German car, I want it to be made in Germany, not assembled in Mexico.

I don't think that's an accurate indicator. My South African built F30 starts with a W...

Shouldn't matter anyway, any BMW factory has the same quality control and tech. Plus I'm sure the good people in MX are very proud to work for and build BMWs.

It's accurate... the 3 series didn't start being built in San Luis Potosí (Mexico) till mid 2019, around June I believe. The 3 on your VIN on your F gen may not be accurate, but on the G20 it is. 3 for Mexico, W for Germany.

Also I understand if they are proud to build BMWs, yet if I'm purchasing a German car, I prefer it made in Germany . Once you start outsourcing builds, you sometimes do see quality control issues.

Yup. If your G20’s VIN starts with a 3, it’s made in Mexico. Mine is Mexican.

And honestly, I’m glad mine is. It has 0 problems. Not a single rattle. Even the sunroof is perfect (I read threads about sunroof rattles on M340is and 330is). Tried everything to make it rattle but it won’t. My car has been through a LOT of potholes, some even at speeds above 80mph (potholes on I57 are kinda deep and I couldn’t avoid them). The roads leading to my house aren’t the best. Lots of potholes and non existent roads. My A4 had a few rattles because of it. My Audis have rattles because of it (started a few 1000 miles from new). That’s how bad the roads are. But my 330i is silent. And it has around 3k miles on it. I had an issue with wind noise but that was because someone had opened the sunroof and didn’t close it back all the way. Closed it and it’s silent now.

So yes. I’m glad I got a trouble free car Looking at all the winding/grinding/what’s that noise threads, it looks like the German built cars are the ones that have those issues (?)

Mines is German built and no rattles. Just had a side mirror creaking when it folded in on driver side when I got it, took it in to fix and they ordered a new mirror assembly from Germany and it fixed itself before the part arrived lol.

So I wouldn't say the German ones aren't well built vs. the Mexico ones, it's just a crap shoot. Regardless, I'll take the German built one, and only that one lol.
