I agree, that render looks like a worthy successor to the f80.

Sluggish responding ZFat in an M3. Not buying the DCT torque logic when F10 M5 made 700 lb ft at the crank.

Presumably returning to steel driveshafts and depressingly not-over rear fenders of G80, which corners will they cut next with the Mexican M2?

Very excited.

No more handbrake turns for M cars.

I bet half the new generation of M employees don't even know how to heel start a manual car.

It doesn't grab well because it's set to be 8 or so clicks for full hold from the factory.

You have to manually adjust the knob inside the hub so it grabs around 3-4 clicks. Works fine after that.

Fucking wack.

As for auto hold, not sure how the new M-ZF8 is but all DCT's automatically hold your car if you press the brake hard enough and let go.

6MT is gonna get an electronic park brake as well.

Unless BMW redesigned the electric park brake around the rear axle, you can say goodbye to those pretty sealed rear calipers.
I do not know what difference you mean, maybe could you compare the two different brake calipers with photos?

F8x Carbon Ceramic Rear Calipers - Standard Hand Brake

This applies to standard non-CCB brakes as well. BMW & Audi uses electronically adjusted caliper pistons that lock the rotor when activated. That's why on most exotic cars you see two calipers mounted in the rear, the smaller one being independently used for Parking.

As far as I know, MB AMG is the only one who still uses electronic axle lock for the park brake, allowing them to have electronic park brake and sealed rear calipers. Early F01 750's had the same concept but it was flaw'd. MB has way more experience with BBK's so I'm not surprised they have it all under control.

They could just put the "electric" parking break in the hub like the F15/85 and still have fixed piston rear calipers.

One man's opinion but I think the E46 and F80 are both better looking than the E90. The E46 probably gets the nod on the "timeless" angle but F80 gets the nod on the aggressive angle.

the render is based on the g20. Not a big fan of this render, bit it is really close to their design language at the moment.

Just curious. Which do you think looks best? based off E46<F8x<E9x, it means the e90 is the best to you. But you +1 on the previous comment saying e46 was timeless and f80 on aggressiveness.

Well thought out analysis..

Hmmm if I had to guess how this conclusion was made I would have to say... Looking at the photo... it hard to explain.

100% agree, have owned e36, e46, e82, e90, and now F30 340i, and the E90 generation is by far my least favorite BMW has ever made. E90 were the "okayest", and their interiors are so awful with that flat plank dashboard, total divergence from the classic BMW driver slanted dash. Those Chris Bangle years were just a design disaster, further confirmed by how poorly they age. even though I owned one, and it was an ok car, it was never truly great. like my F30 much much more.

Need to hear all opinions, that what makes this site function properly.
I think we've heard plenty when it comes to those 2 topics. It's time to move on...
That's your opinion, exactly what I meant

Shift Lever

I like that the Shift Lever looks like it's going to be some kind of rubberized material, something with a important tactile grip and feel instead of some kind of cheesy glossy slippery plastic.

All this dislike of the electronic handbrake cracks me up. The 991.2 Manual GT3 has an electric handbrake and somehow it didn’t change anything I thought or felt about actually driving it. Nor has any car reviewer even cared to mention it.

The M3 is about driving. And damn, this one looks good from behind so far! I’m all in.

I bet this forum will make me upgrade from my f80 to the new m3/4. And I don't want to do it. I don't think the new model will be drastically different - been a customer of BMW for a while now and as much as I love f80, it made me realize I want to try other brands. I m afraid this forum with these pictures and news and marketing catch will make me buy bmw again... please stop this news. Let's talk about rod beating issues in e90 please...
