Getting an M340i to replace my F80 M3, but I'm not ready

So my lease is up on my 2016 M3. I already ordered a M340 fully loaded with every options they had to offer, I mean everything. It should be here within the next 3 weeks to a month. However, I'm not ready to give up my F80. I'm really going to miss it, not just for performance but the looks. I love the aggressiveness and styling. Went to test drive the M5 comp, but still preferred the playfulness and size of the M3. But I guess all good things comes to an end. Well for now until a next M3 comes out. Hope the M340 will be a good place holder til then.

I'm about to get rid of my F82. I'm in the same boat as you, but man after using a new 3-series loaner (while the F82 was in the shop, ha), I have to say I'm pretty jazzed about the new tech in these things.

I will miss the engine and sportiness. But living in California I didn't really get to enjoy it in traffic that often!

So cancel your order and buyout the lease. :

If you really wanted to enjoy it, you would've gone to the track (...just like everybody else who really wants to enjoy their cars or bikes in a safe venue rather than public roads). Don't blame California! California has its issues, but providing venues for automotive fun is one of its strengths.

I’ll be in the same situation next June but might be leaving BMW if there isn’t something compelling. Some cars I have my eyes on are Supra, Corvette C8, 992, or 718 Cayman GTS.

Same boat here man. Ours will be in end of next month and the M is going back. I'm bummed but also excited for a new model. But I can definitely see myself going back to the G80

I wouldn't mind, but I can't see myself buying it when there's a G80 in the making. Plus I like the new technology. Wish I could hold it til the new one comes out.

You can. You buy it, finance it or whatever. Then you sell/trade it when G80 is out. You've already paid the depreciation to this point. Now if you don't want it any more then sure buy/lease a brand new car but then you are even more behind if you want a new G80.

If you're not seriously tracking the M3, you won't miss it a ton. I'm using the m340 for DD duties, and STILL not using the car to its full performance potential.

You'll survive, it's a good place holder until the G80 arrives...

Coming from a similar experience, I would advise you to not overthink it... first and foremost stop reading these forums... test drive the car, and make your own evaluations!

Btw, if you're that hung up on the M3, take over someone else's lease short term.

I think this problem is the biggest failure in the staggered delay M car launches. For a company that encourages repetitive leasing cycles they are always going to leave 18 months of buyers without the option to replace their M3 with another M3 every time the new model is introduced.

So true.

It's even more disappointing when you consider how closely the F90 M5 followed the G30 5 Series. If we were on the same timetable, G80 M3 HEA Order Guides would be less than a month away!

Instead, since they have once again decided the M3 must share its front end with the 4 Series and M4, it has to wait until after the G22 Coupe debuts mid next year.
