I don't know about that. The G20 doesn't make the equivalent F30 look "dated instantly". In fact, looking at the G20 makes me appreciate the F30 even more. The F30 did make the E90 look dated though.

Perhaps not instantly, no. But it does once you've gotten used to it in my opinion. It's all personal preference, of course, but I prefer the G20 over the outgoing F30.

It's all subjective for sure. I've looked at the G20 a lot. I like the F30 better. It remains to be seen how I feel about the new coupe versus the outgoing F-chassis 4.

Oh yes, I'm very worried about that, as I do love the F32 and F82.

I'm hoping my CS withstands a little longer until my lease is up and I get a G80. The E9x immediately looked awful (to me) when the F80 came out.
E9x is the most slab sided flat arsed m3 of all time.

'18+ zcp with icon lights plus aero bits best looking m3/4 of all time (to date). Got a strong hunch the new g will take crown for best looking. TBD.

I was never a fan of any E series BMWs, not the 5 series, not the 3 series, not even the 7 series.

Well the E chasis code generation dates back through the 70's, so you might want to be more specific

I myself love the 90's-Early 2000's Bimmers and have grown to love the bangle cars, except for the pre-lci E65 7 series, that was still to this day hideous

Redline starting at little over 6.5 mark in an M car is just flat out depressing. High revving what?

Blame the ZF8HP BMW likes to slap nowadays in every damn model.

I bet they won't change the redline even if offered in MT.

Do some think that the grill will look like an X7? If so, not a good idea.

Getrag M DCT has two distinguishing features: longer shift paddles and no parking button on shift knob.

The layout is exactly the same as M8 released yestersay, with 8 speed M steptronic automatic transmission(BMW’s marketing term for ZF torque converter).

I still think my E92 looks great and has aged very well! Subjective like you say. I'm keen to see how this G80 will look.

I saw the 7 in the flesh for the first time today in the super market parking lot. It was like WOAAA that’s one mother of a grill!

But...every other BMW I saw on my way to the store from there looked dated...some extremely dated as a first gen. X5 with tiiiny grills that looked almost silly.

On my way out from the store the new 7 was still there and this time I didn’t think it looked bad, instead it looked fresh and bold.

No doubt this new M3 will date the old quickly. Dated doesn’t mean ugly, the F80 will always remain a handsome car.

When is this coming already ? We got M8 released just after seeing some Nürburgring tests. Why does this M3 take such a long time ? I am about to pull the trigger on a 911 instead just bcs m3 is a year away!! Damn you BMW. You are losing customers.

I still haven't gotten into the look of the new 7 yet. Your perspective truly shows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me it will all depend on how the new grills are designed. I like the Audi design, but the Audi design is more cohesive; it seems like the car was designed around the grills. The BMW grills look like an afterthought. Even the Lexus IS grills look more cohesive to my eye.

I mean it kind of is an afterthought if you really think about it. Despite it being a "G" series vehicle, it was really designed w/ BMW's previous design language in mind and resembles the F series cars more (same for the 5 series and X3). The new 3,X5,Z4,8,etc are cars that were designed with the new design language in mind, so the LCI 7 in my opinion is a botched attempt at trying to mix two very different design languages (new is more bold and more angular w/ sharp lines, old is more subdued and curvy w/ soft lines) while also trying too hard to capture the market (apparently the Chinese love big grills more than everyone else)

Good point and it does show that the 7 is not as cohesive as for example the X5 and X7. I’m not Chinese but I do appreciate when car makers take bold risks when designing a new generation of a car. I’m very conservative when it comes to handling and engine (NA high revving engines, HPS,stiff steel springs and passive dampers please) but very progressive when it comes to design. Most car models runs for 6+ years which IMO is more than enough, don’t be lazy and do near to nothing for the next one

Still doesn't rev out to 7600 rpm like S55 does and every ZFat I've seen overheats under hard use. The extra rpm determines whether a lower gear can be held longer around a corner.

They really should change the redline to 7600+ if offered with MT. Otherwise it will really seem like they are trying to neuter enthusiast variants.

No, those wouldn't be related.the powerdome has primarily been an M3 (then later M4) trait on the last 3 generations. If memory serves it was actually functional in the e46 and e90/92 to meet hood clearance needs.
