I wanted to give you guys a little background on our G22 420i and the search for a safe and great sounding intake.

We originally went with AFE’s intake system for the G20/G22 330i & 430i with their dry filter. This definitely was a great upgrade from the stock system as it deleted the resonated intake pipe and retained a dry filter. But unfortunately the system still wasn’t as loud as we expected it to be.

I ended up ordering a knock off ARM Motorsport G20 330i system from AliExpress for $200 AUD including shipping. I only retained the heat shield from the system. You can find this system here for those interested: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqJwHOQ

After some wiggling, I managed to have the AFE system fit with the ARM heat shield. The heat shield still provides sufficient heat shielding from the air filter. We have tested the car in extreme heat conditions and the air filter was still pretty cool. It now sounds really good! Mind you, we are not running a JB4/JB+ or a OTS map. This is completely stock and she sounds pretty good!

I also removed the plastic cover blocking the air duct which sits behind the front kidney grill. The OEM system was just breathing in hot air the whole time! I also ordered FTP’s ‘F3X Dynamic Air Scoop’ to help feed air straight to the open duct.
