M340i MPG
I know it is not the most important thing with this car but....
Not bad at all! A gentle drive round the M24 for 41 miles while running it in so may get better. |

Pointless stats, I expect 90% of m340i drivers wouldn't be driving for 40 miles on the motorway at an average of 54mph.
Shock horror that driving slowly yields higher mpg! |

But I do find it useful to see what is possible. I have no wish to go gently with it once run in! I do always drive slowly to work but faster home!!!!! |

Realistically get one if your happy with 20-30mpg on average. Best Ive had over a distance is 39mpg and that was real world driving, going with the traffic flow and overtaking when necessary.

And, just because somebody has a "sporty" car it doesn't mean they have to drive it everywhere at 9/10ths. That's not the real world and it's what I would expect from someone who is IMAGINING what it's like to own a performance car, rather than actually living with one. A bit like thinking living with a supermodel would mean sex three times a day, rather than arguing over who's putting the bins out. The M Performance cars are BMW's response to people who can no longer stomach high taxes on full-blown M cars, and who are looking for something which has the performance when needed, but which also give great fuel economy. So discussing achievable fuel economy is AS relevant as discussing 0-60 mph times. I didn't buy my R8 to drive three hours up the M1 on cruise control, but it's nice to know I can get 21mpg when I do so. |

Drive in sport plus all the time. Get 20-22 mpg mixed driving. On all highway get 28mpg. Not interested in maximizing mpg's. It's not a Prius.

That's a pretty normal drive really when you go from A to B. It's still interesting as not all performance cars can hit those figures on the same runs.

It’s not about maximising MPG’s, but if you’re having to commute a fairly long round trip in heavy traffic, you can’t enjoy the engine anyway, you’re just burning money.
I think it’s great how you can stick it in comfort or even eco-pro when you can’t enjoy the engine and get a decent MPG and then open it up when you can. |
