Any guesses on MSRP for a decently optioned G80 Comp AWD?

I've driven both and honestly the pros of the ZF-8 outweigh that .0002 second decrease in shift times. The ZF bangs them off pretty fast.

Maybe.. this is a prototype and not the comp. So going to have to wait until full production but I am betting the CF strut brace will be back.

50NM or 36lb of more peak torque than the M SUV is great. Glad to see a different engine tune on the M3.

Hopefully there're also hardware improvement in place at its launch.

That's up for debate... the ZF-8 (Auto) while it won't have that same snappy direct feel as the DCT, it's pretty damn good on the track and its all a matter of tuning. BMW does the best tuning of the ZF-8(auto). The only DCT out there that BMW could use is the DCT that Porsche uses but that's not cheap but its also made by ZF, and Porsche also uses the ZF-8 speed auto.

Your talking milliseconds difference in shift times.

ZF-8 150-200ms // DCT 60-150ms // manual 500ms-1s // human blink 100-400ms

On upshifts, I agree its close... on downshifts I have never seen anything shift close to a DCT... even the F90 M5 guys complained about it in comparo to the DCT.

As far as the RWD and AWD options... its a bizarre split... i was thinking the rwd would be the Purist version w 6 mt... the awd would be the hardcore track / drag car...

Count me as someone who would choose the 8speed with RWD... even as my only car that drives up to Maine monthly. AWD no matter how great, still is heavier and draggy-er (drivetrain wise). I hate that feeling. Evidence of the above is my current vehicle where I made that exact choice.

I think the competition should of had the manual. Not the other way around.

Makes sense the fastest car gets the fastest tranny.

Is it just or are those side mirrors awkwardly shaped? Not sleek like the e92 and f80.

This is the biggest improvement in my opinion for manual drivers:

Quote:
For the first time, the M setup enables software support in the form of "double-declutching" to be set independently of the DSC mode. In the future, if you want, you can switch gears manually without the rev matching, and at the same time leave DSC or DTC activated.

I'm an F90CP M5 guy now... had an F80 for 5 years... It's (the ZF-8) pretty good, yeah it has hiccups but 9 times out of 10 it's pretty good on the ups and downs. Rumor has it the M8 has even better software then the pre-LCI M5, and ZF is always dropping revision to the ZF-8 in question. So I would think the M3/M4 would also be pretty good.

Yeah, it is too many options. But, I bet BMW market research knows the tuning and the purest crowd wants RWD and 6 speed. My understanding of the AWD in the M5 is its complex computer-wise and a manual won't work. Also if the trend is true, spread the cost of development, the base powertrain will probably find itself in the M2 and maybe the Z4 twins.

Plus side for tuners is the ZF also can take a ton more power stock than the DCT.

No I agree they are ugly square ones that they added a finger to instead of the beautiful sleek ones that come with the F8Xs.
