Thank you Erind

So, in person, does the nearly 2 tons of car dwindle down to nearly 1.5 tons?

Just curious because the 'spy' track videos make it look like the G80/G82 have to pay an extra axle toll.

I think it's just a matter of days before somebody leaks full pictures of the new M3/M4 from that closed event that they are having with the preview of that car.

Thanks for the feedback Erind. I'm sure once the camo comes off that quite a few like yourself will change their mind.
Looking forward to the final reveal.

+1

Really hoping someone like iND develops a "performance" grille in a honeycomb type pattern

Thanks for sharing OP!

As I've said before, I'm a buyer of this platform based on performance metrics alone. The fact that a fellow F82 owner has seen and liked it is a very good sign. One of my favorite things about being an M car owner is how people react to it's aggressive look/stance. If that's been amplified, I'm sooooo down!

I have a B58 with MPPSK which I consider the best sounding iteration of the turbo I6s. I am hoping the M3/M4 S58 is an improvement on that.
Having heard X3M Comp with stock and aftermarket exhausts, S58 is definitely not an improvement over B58 in the sound department in my opinion (just like how S55 was over N55). If anything, I'd say X3/X4M Comp sounds too similar to F8x M3/M4 Comp. Also, some aftermarket setups for X3M sounds like absolute crap especially when combined with catless downpipes. In comparison, you have to try really hard to make N55/B58 sound bad.

"but after seeing it I changed my mind."

I interpret this as: it's still ugly but not to the point of being a deal-breaker.

Yes, I have seen the grill, and as you all know, yes, it's huge. But I have to say the car will be a very IN YOUR FACE type of car. It’s nothing like the M5 where you really have to know what an M car is to see the difference. The back is where they stepped it up. I think it's perfect and also aggressive AF, and with some perf goodies it will be insane.

I'm sure some people will still hate it, and I was one of them, but after seeing it I changed my mind. That being said, I don't know if I would order it in white with black grills like my F82.

I know in videos you cannot hear the sound very good but I don't think this car will sound better than the F80 especially in Europe with the particle filter.

Grtz
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I'm with you. I mean that in the beginning, I was totally shocked, and didn't like the grille at all. Now the more I can look at the photos with less camo, the more I like it. Especially compared to the new M5, too much "normal" for my tastes, and it's what I've always hated about my M140....which is totally understated and no one can recognize it, unless you know the model and you are aware of the little changes of the 40i compared to the common M sport cars.

So, I think that it's not the most beautiful front in the world for sure, but surely, everyone will recongnize it as an M car. No question about it.

I agree with you also for the general looking. To me it'll be a really hardcore sedan, and my choice will probably be between the Donington Grey or an Individual red color if I'll want it really showy.

Except once you put a U.S. license plate on it, it looks even worse. BMW definitely designed the car with the Euro plate in mind. I am hoping with an offset US plate that might help draw your eyes away from the massive grille

Thanks for sharing your observations. It's not info that will change anyone's mind, but it's a useful reminder that we should see the thing in person before making a final judgment.

I went to the dealership after they got their first X7's because I thought surely it can't be as bad as the pics. When I got there it was even worse because in three dimensions the size of the thing just assaults you...it's not just big and tall but it makes the whole nose just jut out at you. I'm not optimistic but I do want to give the G80 a fair chance to change my mind.

BMW should unveil the fucking thing already. I know how corporate machines and timelines work, but they should realize that they have to rush it a bit because journalistic and forum opinions are killing them right now. If we can all see it, there will be people like erind that will change their minds and lessen the problem. The others will still hate it, but they already hate it now so there's no loss.

I guess they have to step it up quite a bit in how cars are designed...
I can only recommend to watch the below video fully (not only X6 related things)...it shows the issues very well, and it is shocking for some things...

Overstyling and not having a flow in the design is an issue with all manufacterers currently and is not only happening with BMW, but they seem to lead the trend currently

Or just don't put a front plate on at all.

M signature design elements has always been recently a double slit grill and I would expected it for the G8x. Just like the quad exhaust, side door M trim and the front bumper with the shape A (the legs) vs series production W shape.

The 1-2x a year ticket is worth it. I have been running without a front plate for 12 years and it's cost me $150 in NYC.
