From my perspective, I think luxury cars in the US are extremely affordable compared to luxury cars in Australia. My Tanzanite Blue G80 M3 xdrive with carbon buckets and carbon ceramics costed me just shy of 200K AUD which is about 140K USD. You can get the same in the US for about 90K USD I believe. Plus our average salary is about 15% lower than that of in the US. So comparatively, driving a G80 M3 in Australia is equal to driving a Porsche 992 GT3 RS in the states so envious of you american folks

Your car would be $100k or so USD. Plus another approximately $10k for tax and registration. A GT3 RS would be $250kish.

Oops I think i did my maths wrong

Mine was actually 208K AUD MSRP and I negotiated down to just under 200K at the dealer and this was last year April. Right now, I just put mine into the configurator, it is now showing up as 229K AUD MSRP which is about 155K USD.

So comparatively speaking, getting a G80 M3 Xdrive in Australia is like getting a base model 992 GT3 with no options in the states

I think the M3/M4 are one of the best all around cars. I can’t think of any new car under 100k that comes close to these in terms of practicality, performance, and luxury. So I think it’s completely worth it.

It's only overpriced if you want it but can't afford it... and if you don't want it, why does the price matter?

The more I read through this, the more I think OP was just stirring the pot. Going on a forum where a bunch of people bought an M3/M4 and telling them that their car is overpriced is going to end in a very predictable way.

As my signature says, I've had a lot of cars. Having luxury, performance, rear seats, aftermarket support AND a manual transmission all in one package is absolutely worth what I paid for my G82, especially when considering what everything else costs in today's market.

I'll bite.

No, the G8x platform is PERFECT!!!! It should be worth a bajillion million dollars and we got a crazy deal getting it for just under $100k full of options like air conditioning!!!!! I can steer it left and right real good and when I press gas pedal it go fast! It has cargo space but car also go road!

But I understand. Why buy good new car at reasonable market price when can put biggerest turbo in less expensive car that can take me between each mechanic shop on my commute to work? Since G-platform has no noticeable upgrade in quality, it same as 325i right?

What are you driving now? I think this sounds like someone who really wants a G80-82 but can't afford one.

Keep working grasshopper, and someday you too can aspire to a BMW M Series car.

A quick little investigative journalism around the forums.

Finding:
Bro has been scouring the F87 and the F80/82 forums to get his hands on a used M2 or M4.

Assumption:
Looks like OP wants the G80, but it's been priced outside his range, even a used one, so probably looking for consolation that getting a used F87 or F82 is the right option. So, of course, even the G87 isn't worth it because it's not of high quality. And the G80, definitely overpriced.

Advice:
Buy whatever feels comfortable, OP ... no reason to stir the pot for validation

[PS. all just silly fun, don't take it personally ]

I wonder if BMW is saving a bunch of money by building the G87 M2 with 15% Mexican parts.

Yes.
Otherwise they would not build the cars there or source the parts there.

As to the quality of the parts, no idea.
corporations only do things for one reason, money.

I have to concur with you. I had a 2004 E46 M3 silver convertible, then a 2009 E93 M3 silver convertible and now a 2022 G83 silver convertible. (I guess you could say I'm a creature of habit). The G83 is an overall more powerful car (now with X-drive), a tighter handler with less frame shake and the interior is more plush, yet also more performance-based.
