Yes, more likely than not. My current 2022 M340i doesn’t rattle as much as my 2019 330i did. Here and there it rattles or makes audible creaks when going up ramps, driveways or huge temperature fluctuations.

I found out, that if I apply upward pressure with my hand to passenger's side of the sunroof the rattling sound disappears.
Obviously, this is not a solution, but I hope someone has an idea for a solution based on this finding.

I took mine to the dealer today for this issue. Of course they claimed they could not replicate. I had my dad drive my car and he confirmed he heard the rattle.

Dealers are so trash man.

I don't know how it worked, but I manually applied pressure on the headliner on the passengers side, and after that the problem was gone.

I had the sunroof creak when going over uneven surfaces, driving into/out of the driveway, etc. I noticed the sunroof seal was pretty dirty so I cleaned it, which helped some, as did the weather cooling off I think. I then followed SIB 54 15 19 and bought the special grease (part 83-19-2-458-653; I couldn't get the part in the SIB, and it may be discontinued). I followed the SIB and sprayed it along the seal liberally; it's quiet now. I had a feeling it would work prior to a test drive, because before I could press down on the sunroof from the outside and it would creak loudly; after the grease, there was no noise. We'll see how long it holds up for.

I do have the same problem with rattling noise from sunroof.
I’ve already applied grease for the sunshade but seems rattling is still there.
But pressing upward from passenger side really works.
After that I’ve found there’s a gap between headliner and the roof, I guess it’s the problem which makes noises!

I’ve been experiencing some rattling too. Mine occurs when driving over rough pavement but it doesn’t happen all the time - could be dependent on temperature perhaps. When it rattles and I crack the sunroof the problem goes away. The other interesting thing to note here is that the rattling doesn’t sound like it’s coming from the roof: it took me a while to figure out it was the sunroof.

Any how I brought it in a couple of days ago, the foreman acknowledged that the shop is constantly getting service requests for this issue from customers. He said in 99% of the cases they clean the sunroof thoroughly including the seals and that fixes the issue. Mine has visible signs of dust stuck around the seals and some dust/dirt around the roof. I offered to do it myself at home because I didn’t want to leave my car for a couple of days at the dealership; I’ll test it for the next few days to see if that makes a difference. The shop also advised cleaning the roof whenever I wash the car. I’ll report back after test driving for a few days.

P.S: I was told not to use Gummi Pflege as I’ve done in the past.

No problems for 2.5 years, until recently. Not creaking, but rattling sound coming from rear section of headliner.
Interestingly - it does not happen over rough roads. It is only present on smooth surface at highway speeds. Sounds like a loose screw is rolling around somewhere in the roof.
Anyone experienced something similar?

This reminds me of Lexus GS 350 rattle I had, it was driving folks crazy until Toyota/Lexus came with upgraded seal and that $40 fixed the problem.

Rattling would happen going over rougher pavement, especially when you are driving slow. It would sound like it's coming from back door or trunk.

Quick update: my roof started rattling again but would go away once I opened the roof to tilted position. I also don't hear the rattle with the music on (meaning 90% of the time.) I took it in and the seal was relaced together with a few parts -- all under warranty. The roof is now 100% silent.

I also had seal replaced and it was a 100% fix for the sunroof rattle. Service manager said sometimes they need to be replaced after a few years again, but BMW will typically replace under warranty if previously repaired (even if after 4 years 50K.)

Hi BMW Crew,

I have found the source of ticking from sunroof, its the guide for sunshade.
In my case, if i tap on the hard profile that slide the shade i can hear light ticking.

I try to lubricate the sliders with silicone spray and than with grease with no success.
After that i put felt tape on both sides (see pictures) and there is no more ticking.

This is not a permanent solution because the shade is now fixed in open position.
If you try this method remember NOT TO slide the shader until you remove the felt tape.

Dealer had to replace the sunroof motor last week. Not sure the procedure to replace it but whatever they did, my sunroof “rattle” was gone. It makes me think it wasn’t even the sunroof the entire time but a rattling headliner

I had that annoying ticking noise from sunroof, the source was the point where rail touches the plastic part. I managed to put there a thin tape (with toothpick ) and that solve the problem.
