Another recruit to the G21 club (330i)
Well after much deliberation I have placed an order for a 330i Touring in Portimao blue. This will be my first ever estate car having only ever had saloons or hatchbacks before so a change of direction for me. I suspect it will be my last ICE car too.
Options wise I’ve gone for M Sport Pro, Technology Plus Pack, Comfort Pack, Panoramic Sunroof (seems a must for the G21) and Lumbar Support. It’s a shame the chip shortage has meant I couldn’t get HK but at least the 330i gets the Advanced sound system with 10 speakers so hopefully that will be OK and the dealer has said they are ordering including a request that if HK becomes available it should be added (not holding my breath though). Luckily I’m not actually bothered about DAP or wireless charging being unavailable. Given the choice I’d have not bothered with the LSD from the M Sport Pro pack but I definitely wanted the adaptive suspension so no choice really. Fortunately for me I work for a BMW supplier so have been able to order through their group supplier program and the car is coming from BMW Park Lane, I think in the same way that police and armed forces cars do. It’s amazing how after all these years you still get that giddy feeling ordering a new car and I’m really looking forward to it. The waiting begins…..

What l meant was that if the package without it was, say, £800 cheaper and LSD was a single £800 option l wouldn't have ticked that £800 box.
l say that because never having had one before I guess I imagine that you wouldn't even know it was there 99% of the time. Presumably there are many G2x owners on here who now have one for the first time so it would be interesting to hear opinions.

To be honest i'd rather have had the LSD and rwd, instead of 4wd. Such is life. Can't complain, still a cracking car.

Rhino, you're going to be so impressed by the 330i. Such an impressive engine for a 4c, with lots of characterful punch. The gearbox is tremendous, adding icing to the cake of the brilliant handling and steering precision. The adaptive suspension on mine made a genuinely palpable difference, especially on our typically unpredictable A and B roads! Anyway, enjoy.

It'll be interesting to see how it feels handling and steering wise having less weight over the nose with the 4 cylinder engine. I recall when the F30 came out there seemed to be a consensus that the 4 cylinder engine cars were much better in that regard. I haven't particularly noticed that comment for the G20 (but then I haven't particularly looked for it either).

Your hunch about the handling is actually right: many of the initial reviews praised how poised and agile the 330 was but didn't explicitly connect that with the lighter engine (combined of course with the RWD set up). I felt mine was really sharp into and out of corners; and the steering precision is superior. You'll find a few folks who think the G20 steering is somehow a tad lifeless or numb (maybe more so on the 40i); but in real-world terms (ie off the track where things are pushed to the limit) I think that's pretty unfounded (both for the 30 and 40 models). What proved that to me was having a new courtesy 530 for a couple of days: worlds apart; and I couldn't wait to get my 3 back!

I ordered on the 4th of June and the initial feedback is that it's due to arrive in the UK in Week 34 which I believe is the last week in August. So looking like early September delivery with the new registration plate.

I agree with you too....although they don't have to fit HK or a Wireless Charger so that should take some time off

Not sure although I'm sure I've read somewhere that a G21 330i could come from Mexico so might not be relevant.

I’ve heard that a lot of G20 and G21s are coming from Pelosi in Mexico now. I’m sure I recently read an article about them producing the ‘e’ models as well now but not sure whether that’s currently just for BMW North America?

You may well be right ‘xenon’ it wasn’t very clear whether or not Mexico had the necessary tooling to produce the G21 alongside the G20. I know there was an announcement from BMW that Mexico was geared up to produce the 330e models but like I say maybe just for the North American market at present maybe?
