G21 boot mat, BMW vs others

Hello All,

I am looking at getting a boot mat for my future G21. Normally I would go for the official BMW one. But, I have seen this one from Gledring at 50% of the BMW one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133628621596

Anyone have any experience of either? Good or bad?

Btw, my car comes with the self-raising bars on the floor boot. I assume not an issue interfering with the mats?

I’m also interested in this, but also if there’s such a thing of a protector to cover the whole area when the back seats are folded down.

I have the BMW one and it works well - good and sturdy with decent high sides to contain spillages (just in case) but also easy to remove and clean. Doesn't move around much if at all. I also have the non slip boot bars in the boot floor.

I had something in a previous car (F31 340i) which worked well for this, it was a custom fitted boot liner though rather than a rubber boot mat.

Thanks for the reply. When you fold the seats down, does the lip on the mat get in the way much?

How about on the side of the bootlid aperture?

On my 5 series there is 0 lip between boot floor and tailgate opening, is this the same on G21s?

If i'm folding the seats down i tend to either lay a blanket the length of the load bay to slide something on, or take the boot mat out - so in both instances no issue with the lip.

Yes, 3 series floor is flat at load lip, same as 5.
Although i believe the 330e floor is raised slightly, if you're looking at a 330e?

Is there a mat which has an integrated bumper protector, or don't they ever work like that?

The Gledring one I showed above has an optional bumper protector. You can screw this on and it then unfolds when you need it to or you re-arrange it to get out of the way. I suppose this depends on how often you'd want to use the bumper protector.

Some more info on their site:

Riccardog ta.

Saw the link above, but didn't realise that you could integrate it. I sometimes but the dogs in and make a huge faff at the moment of them not scratching the bumper.

Maybe I need a permanent bumper protector. Guess a clear one would be best.

Go to a proper car wrapping company. Lots around now. They can put a decent clear wrap on the back bumper quickly and easily that will protect more than the pre made ones you can buy.

I ended up buying the Gledring one. I would normally stick with the OEM stuff for accessories (apart from roof bars) but in the end I went with the Gledring because

a) It was considerably cheaper. If I don't like it I can always buy the factory one;
b) I suspect its slightly lighter / less stiff, this makes it easier to access the storage units underneath

Its arriving today so will update accordingly. Shame I still don't actually own a G21 to put it in... hoping to over the weekend.

An yes, I know it just a mat and I'm overthinking it!

Is there a way to preserve the function of the rubber bars on the floor and still lay down a boot mat?

I would think its safe to assume that, as the mat covers the whole floor and the bars only raise a few mm, their functionality is effectively lost. Of course, that functionality is then replaced by the mat itself.

When i had the front of my car PPF'd i had them put a strip on that loading lip on the rear bumper. Works a treat.

Wish I had joined up here earlier and found this . I’ve bought the BMW all weather mats for front and rear seats and for the boot!

They are good quality and logo’d, so look cool, just cost more but I got caught up on that ‘new’ car enthusiasm thing

I can also vouch for the BMW boot liner, has a quality feel to it and fits perfectly as you would expect.

As an update, I've since received the mat, received my car (hooray) and also driven 1000mi in it since (roadtrip).

The Gledring mat is not rigid in the sense that it will fold on itself twice, which for me is perfect as its easy to move around out of the way to access the underfloor storage units. It has no smell at all, which is great. The fit I'd say is 95~7% accurate, it has a slight bit of leeway on the sides. In terms of looks it integrates perfectly, in fact it reminds me a lot of the look of the official BMW mat for the E91 (parent's car), although its not as rigid as that one.

Therefore I'd say its a valid alternative at less than 50% the BMW one.

I'm likely to buy the official BMW rubber mats, so in due course will compare with those, assuming they're the same material as the boot mat.

I bought from my dealer the official front and rear mats with boot protector for £160. Steep price but I just like the rigid perfect fit.

I have Gledring in my wifes car and it is perfectly acceptable just not rigid.
