My 2013 e92 M3 holds a very, very special place in my heart. Enjoy the M340i in good health!

Yep, basically downtown but to the east of I-5. My commute involves different paths through the ID, First Hill, Cap Hill, I-5, etc. There are a couple of intersections that are nothing but broken potholes and some of the brake bumps on the hills are ridiculous. I now feel like I'm wafting over these areas compared to the M3. Other than sound and prestige, I don't really miss it.

I'd just get the cheapest 5 series.

Had a M340 loaner while my F80 was in for service. Only for the day and 30 minutes worth of driving.

1) it's does not excite me when I see one but it's a good looking car.

Back story; I had a MK7 GTI and it was a great car. For just regular driving it's close to the M340 just commuting not the performance.

I also now have a 06 GTI with 174,000 miles as a daily driver. I'm the original owner.

If I'm just commuting I'll take pretty much anything.

To me the F80 it's a great looking car, amazing performance and it's special.

If you favor comfort then M340 all day;
Then why not get the 5.

Very nice write-up. Sold my E92 M3 ZCP 2 months ago and I do miss it sometimes. It’s so rewarding and engaging. A true driver’s car no doubt. Yes lack of low-end torque but the S65 is still a gem - the exhaust note is just so intoxicating! I had a E90 before and during the ownership, I told myself I gotta own this one day......

With a baby in tow and lack of opportunity to drive it, it was financially-wise to just sell it. It’s basically a garage queen, only taken out when it’s dry out there on weekends with 5ks clocked in 12 months. Sold it to a middle age gentleman who I believe will have more opportunity to enjoy it.

Ordered a 2020 X3 M40i (arriving Nov) for the family duties which shares the same B58 in the M340i and I do hope my experience will be exactly the same as yours. The test drive itself sealed the deal.

Yeah. 5 years later and I STILL miss my 2013 E92 ZCP. It was one of my favorite BMW's ever and I am on my 26th BMW right now.

I actually find the interior of the E9x timeless. I think it is plush, well put together and a proportional amount of buttons and screens. Being 12 years old I think it's aging quite well, much better than the E46 and previous generations, and will continue to age well.

IMO it's the nav-less cars that look a bit dated with the radio layout etc..

No replacement for the shit-ton of torque these new cars have either.

Absolutely correct.

I have a Boosted 2.4L that would leave that NA V8 in its dust.

About 1600 miles on my m340 X drive . I love it , I occasionally I wish the handling was a bit sharper . It is very comfortable even though I drive in sport plus mostly. Best of luck with yours

You'll want the M3 back!!

Not about power. It's about how cars feel. The E9X is connected in a way a new BMW cannot be, IMO.

People should go back to keeping the cars they love; instead of searching for 'newness'.

Whenever I get into a new car the tech overload becomes a distraction. I installed a Bluetooth adapter and phone mount and that's all I'll ever need. If you can't park a car or change lanes without cameras or sensors you need to turn in your license and ride public transportation.

I always get a kick out of these comments. I mean, I get it. But progress is progress and my F80 left me remembering fondly but never missing my E90 and my guess is whatever I get next will leave me feeling the same about my F80 (which I've LOVED). I love my cars but these aren't exactly air-cooled Porsches or something that has a true nostalgic/historic joy to it.

I haven't driven the M40i xDrive but I've had the G20 30i RWD for a couple days and my first thought was "wow, this is a nice car".

Thanks all! I'm sure when the E92 goes and the luster of the new car fades a bit I might yearn for the *because racecar* experience again but I REALLY enjoy how much power is so easily on tap with AWD and no fuss or ride comfort issues. Our other car is a B9 SQ5 with lease up in a year so maybe the X3M will tempt me as our SUV replacement although it's supposedly a tried and true M with all the benefits and downsides of that as well.

I don't think I'll ever go back to RWD unless it's a spare weekend car. BMW just nails the target on these M Performance xDrive cars and I presume the M-xDrive cars are fantastic in this regard as well.

Somethings only happen once.

Thank you for sharing. The M3 V8 was something very special from an era where there less constraints on what could be done and used to achieve a desired result.

Now they have to make things work for environmental, profitability and safety requirements and still achieve a fun factor.

It is a sign of the times when Ferrari develops a hybrid and a SUV and BMW M is no different.

Still I think they have found a way to retain some of the core fun factors that make the cars desirable.

In regard to the e90 m3, it had a na, high strung v8, which is something that is difficult to find for the price of an m3. The most similar car that's reasonably modern is the gt350.

Progress isn't always in the sense of for driving pleasure alone. A lot of recent "progress" has as much to do with complying with gov mandates. It might be progress in a social sense, but is little more than a compromise to driving pleasure.
