Had a parking friend today. It's wild to see how high the stock suspension actually is

Thought I'd revive this thread from a while back as we have a load of new owners coming aboard and I've found some pics of my car on the tinternet, saves me having to clean it and photograph it, these are a lot better than I could manage!!

Looks like a nice spec.

Not sure about the grill as most people with those grills always seem to have an oversized M badge on the boot just in front of the 320d badge!

But that's the beauty of cars, you can do whatever you like to it.

Grill doesn’t do it for me either but, as Jim says, each to their own.

Thank you! I wanted a bit of a luxury vibe which the oyster interior really gives.

The connotations of the tricolour did cross my mind, but I would never stoop to a fake M badge, so I think just a splash of heritage based colour isn't too bad, I'll see how I'll feel about them when I've done the grilles in a darker stainless grey but for now I really like them.

Do you paint yourself?

I was tempted to get the grill wrapped before I got the car but when I realised that an OEM one was £120 I went down that route.

Looks great with the splitter. Is that standard M Sport suspension ride height?

No mate, they’re moulded pieces of plastic that clip on to the uprights of the grille. The quality is really good, tight fit, nice tolerances. My dad was concerned they’d interfere with the operation or the active grille shutters but thankfully they sit there happily enough and I really like ‘em.

I don’t want a completely black grille as nice as it looks, I only want a darker grille so I’m unsure what to do, but I won’t be painting or attempting to remove that plated chrome, I did that to my 2007 Octavia vRS many years ago and it’s not a job I’d like to repeat, so I’ll have to wrap them in a darker silver. How hard are they to remove?

Yep due to health problems I am virtually immobile in this cold, and I would love to be out doing stuff to the car, but it’s dirty and I’m having to keep warm. I have my arduinos and a new CrowPi, so I’m not going mental in this lockdown... well not too mental

Your car is jaw droppingly beautiful by the way. Thanks to lockdown I’ve only put 1600 miles on my touring since I collected her in late October.

Has anyone hear in the UK had their G21 windows tinted? currently looking at doing them however i've been slightly concerned over the whole Dot Matrix issue and the "halo" visible on any windows tinted that have them on. If anyone has done theirs's is it noticeable?

Thanks

Always happens unfortunately, but only really visible when up close. I had my G30 tinted and still looked great, but never going to be as good as factory SPG.

I feared as much. I wonder if anyone, even a main dealer can retrofit factory tinted windows?

They possibly could fit new windows, but that would be cost prohibitive for sure. They normally use or send you to a local tinting firm. They did that with me a few years ago. The tint firm made a rubbish job of the rear window, there were tiny bubbles in it. I complained so they had the car back to replace the rear tint. In doing so they damaged the heated window elements so had to replace the complete window! A right hassle. If you’re a perfectionist you won’t be happy with aftermarket tints.

My wife ordered a car once with SPG and it arrived without, despite our order copy. Dealer offered to have it tinted locally or place a new order with corresponding wait. They agreed to get them tinted and refund the cost of SPG from the order so we effectively got for free. It was a compromise we accepted and they were ok-ish but not the same as the real thing.

For context, here's my G30 with aftermarket tints on it. Done by a company called Custom Tint in the north east. Like I say, you have to really be up close to tell that they aren't factory.
