EOS Rebel T1i EF-S

Yes? No? Anyone have one?

It will be my first DSLR camera, I'm coming from a Leica C-LUX 1. The saturation and color it picks up are great, but I'm just looking for a little more now. Want to be able to control everything manually. Depth of field etc.

I'm a new, newbie when it comes to actually TAKING the photos.

Probably should have just started this thread instead of the other one.

Thanks guys!

good body, just make sure you get good glass

you'll benefit more from good glass then the body

Something I know nothing about.....yet. It comes with a kit lens, which I read aren't really very good, but probably OK for a beginner like me?

kit lens should be fine, but if high quality output is your goal, perhaps just buy the body, and get the canon 17-55 F 2.8 IS lens for walkaround high quality, and perhaps one of canons 70-200 IS variations for the longer end....

but then its a question of budget as well...

what you looking to spend on the body+lens+filters?

It's a good camera as far as I know. The image quality is very close to that of the 50D (which is also a good camera).

Been thinking about this one myself. Pushing the budget limits, though. Been thinking about maybe going with the cheaper XSi and better glass for the same $$$.

i was about to buy the t1i also but ended up with a d90. The D90 feels more solid and some website did a side by side comparison and said the D90 would be better than the t1i.

Some website did but the rest of the websites pretty much either stated that they are both equally or that the T1i is a bit better (for one thing I believe the T1i records in 1080 while the D90 only records in 720?).

Garbage cause it's 20 fps or cause you've actually seen the output quality and found it to be poor? The 1080P samples I've seen weren't going to win Oscars but didn't look particularly jerky to me. In any case, it'll do 30 fps in 720P while the D90 records in 24 fps.

I agree, though, that the video is of minor importance compared to the quality of the still recording. Both the D90 and T1i are very capable still cameras - that just happen to have HD video capability.

Used 40D's go for about $700 so I would say yes. It's basically a trade off between better build, bigger body for the newer technology.

heard many people say that also..

T1i is comparable to D5000. D90 is one notch up of T1i.

T1i is basically a dressed up XSi with HD recording..feels and looks the same..

T1i is an XSi with the 50D sensor and Hd recording...so no, its not the same

and I would say the T1i is comparable to the D90 quality and feature wise, and the D300 is comparable to the 50D, and the D700 is somewhat comparable to the 5dmkii...

is always a rough comparison...because each model has some benefits the other one doesnt

The comparison was done by some website I searched in google few months ago before I bought my D90. They reviewed both camera and has concluded that the T1i is practically a dressed up XSi..And the D90 is a all around better camera than the T1i..

not trying to argue...but perhaps that magazine ignored the completely different internals?

the T1i has a different and better sensor than the XSi, includes HD video, and while it may look very similar, having a different sensor pretty much makes it a completely different camera.

I think if you were deciding between the two, it would be a matter of personal preference to either the Nikon body/menu styles etc, and the Canon body/menu styles. Quality wise, both are very close, and both are pretty good.

I have the XSi and am very pleased with it. True, the kit lens doesn't perform like the "L" lenses, but it's what, $100 more than the body-only? For EF-S bodies, the 17-55mm f/2.8 gets reviews that compare it to "L" lenses, by the way. But it will cost you more than the body itself. The Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 also gets good reviews, but has no image stabilizer.

Anyway, I'd imagine that the T1 would only be better than mine, since as mentioned, it has the 50D sensor (DIGIC IV instead of III). So I say go for it! And check out http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

Yes, but only at 20 fps at the full 1080P or at 30 fps at 720P.

I'll vouch for the 720 for the T1i.
it's good.
1080 function on T1i is short 4 frames of being perfect.
