Downloaded the CAFD files so I could play around with them in the house.

I'm seeing the following so far:

5665 LIC_EDGE_CUTTER_RULE_ASSIGNMENT UNK_PARAM_3 - don’t have unk_param_3, I do have "g20 ece code"

5665 LIC_LOG_LAMP_2_PHYS_LAMP_DATA UNK_PARAM_22
5665 LIC_LOG_LAMP_2_PHYS_LAMP_INDEX UNK_PARAM_22 - dont have "unk_param_22", only "unk_param_37"

5665 LIC_VERSION_DATA UNK_PARAM_28 - don't even have "LIC_VERSION_DATA" in my CAFD

5665 NSL_L_UE_SPG_SCHUTZ Active - don't have active, just dimmed, inactive, and default

EDIT: see my newest post

Thanks. I manually diffed all the other CAFDs, and none of those changes have triggered the functionality. My goal was to avoid ECE coding, but not quite there yet. 5665 looks really promising based on what you posted though, thanks

With a bit of changes this is working perfectly on my 2019 G20. First attempt resulted in hyperflash of signals when turned on. Here are my full 5665 edits:

A reboot fixed my missing mappings. Odd.

5665 changes were the key. I am getting some issues with intersection crash avoidance though.

If you first VO Coded BDC_BODY with Typecode ECE, then revert the following back to US:

7083 PIA_DEFAULT_FAHREN
7083 PIA_UEBERNAHME_GESCHWINDIGKEIT
7083 VOFFSET
7083 VORFAHRTS_WARNUNG

I believe these parameters are related to ECE Driver Assistant Professional. These parameters set to ECE did not create any issues for my vehicle.

I coded above on bimmercode in expert mode with no luck...... I still get hyper flashing. All the other values, I did not touch as they are not accessible through BDM in bimmer code.

Also, so far, no matter what I do, I can not get the turn signals on the trunk lid to function. Only the other turn signals flash once separated from brake lights.

Let me know if anyone else gave it a try.

I know we will get there.

Installed ECE taillights

I just finished up installing ECE taillights I purchased off ebay.

Tail lights are working properly except for the rear fog light. I am waiting on the ECE light switch and I still have to run a wire from the rear left inner tail light connector to the BDC_BODY... so I can confirm:

1) the inner tail light assembly connectors do not contain the fog wires.

2) There is only one rear fog lamp, on the drivers side. I have attached pics of the ECE rear inner tail lights assemblies. The LED ICs can be clearly seen in the driver's side assembly. The schematic from newTIS.info also implies there is a fog lamp on the driver's side only. Note lamp 14 in the left/right inner tail light assembly for LHD/RHD vehicles, respectively.

Would our EU members please confirm their vehicles contains one/two fog lamps?

Thank you

Larry

It seems that all new BMW vehicles, not just US-Spec variants, are no longer wired and programmed for "two" functioning rear fog lights, as past generations of BMWs did.

Now, it's just one, singular light (Left or Right, depending on the region) and there is no direct OEM harness available to retrofit two fog light outputs.

I guess the assumption is that only one fog light is required, to meet ECE regulations, so BMW can cut cost, however small, by eliminating the extra wiring, that's was just dead-heading.

larrylam, great work! I'm anxiously awaiting your results on the rear fog.

Wish I could help over here but I've got a US/Can-spec car too. That being said, your work will help me avoid weird looks. LOL

Sorry for the dumb question but do Euro spec tail lights use amber leds to obtain the amber look through red lenses? Are the lenses clear? If the leds are amber, I assume there is no way to swap them out into US spec vehicles.

No dumb questions.... yes, the turn-signals are amber in colour and the lenses are red.

I have no idea of the colour of the actual LEDs. If you are asking if the physical LEDs can be swapped, I am sure it is possible but it may be more work/hassle than just picking up and swapping in a used set of ECE tail lights - https://www.ebay.de/itm/Original-BMW...8AAOSw6zheFM5S

Thank you. So if the LEDS are yellow, when they pass through the red lenses they maintain the yellow color. Interesting. I realize that it would be a PITA to swap out the LEDS but I thought if possible that would eliminate and coding issues that may result from using the Euro tails.

I think we now know how to code the ECE functionality (i.e. disable the brake lamps from being used as turn-signals) into NA tail lights so this should not dissuade you from considering installing ECE tail lights if you want amber turn signals. I have installed ECE tail lights and coded ECE functionality and experience zero issues.

If you replace the turn-signal LEDs so the turn-signals are amber, I would think you would want to code the ECE functionality to stop the brake lights (red) from blinking with the turn-signals (amber).

Also I did not say the turn-signal LEDs are amber in colour. I said the ECE turn-signals are amber in colour and the lense are red.

Since amber turn signals are not illegal in the US (i do not know about Canada) would it not be cost effective if BMW made the same tail lights for all markets?

The turn signal inner LEDs are originally red, for conformity and also sometimes styling but they add a green optical filter, in the ROW version, so to the human eye, they appear amber, meeting ROW regulations.

Red+Green= Amber
Thank you. I hope you did not break your lens to explain this to me. LOL. BTW: Does ROW mean rest of the world?

Just finished up wiring the rear fog to the BDC. Still waiting on the ECE light switch so I triggered the rear fog using ISTA+.

On my EU car, the part of the rear light where indicators are located is dark red. When the indicator lights up it shines with pure orange despite it's shining throgh the dark red lense.

LOL, no I found that random picture on Instagram and saved it because I knew one day this topic would come up and it would come in handy

And yes, "ROW" means, the opposite of anything North American related.

The US regulators have to some real intricate and specific lighting requirements, so it's the antithetical to what the rest of the free world uses or is required, hence the distinction.
