strange? my car was factory build in October but has old software.
I believe there is an update from my current. can I update my self or do I ned to book with BMW
Can’t be done over the air as yet so an hour and a half job at your dealer awaits you.
Tell them ( as they’re probably unaware) that you require the latest update which I think is still 11/2019.40
Can I take my car into any BMW dealership for an update, or do I need to return one belonging to the chain I purchased it from?

As your car has a 3 year or 60,000 mile warranty from BMW and not your dealer/ broker you can book it in at any BMW dealer as they charge work to BMW AG.
I’ve nurtured a relationship with my local dealer over the last 15 years so they are very accommodating although I had to and I’m sure you’ll need to book it in a few days in advance.

Straight out the box my car is showing a 29mile electric range. Let’s see how far it really goes!

Sorry to break the illusion but it'll go down a bit in the coming days. It tries to use your driving history to assess actual mileage. As you've not got any it will be "optimistic" at the moment :-)

You'll probably find it drops to 22-23 after a bit and less if it gets cold. But I regularly get more than it suggests on longer drives, when the regen provides a boost.

Glad it has finally turned up. Hope you enjoy it! :-)

Don’t worry. It’s pretty irrelevant until you’ve established a driving/charging pattern. I started off with 22 miles in November and now it’s around 25. It’s a very fluid estimate which changes dramatically with outside temperature
and driving style.

I can see why miles per a charge is what draws most attention, but what sort of energy 'consumption' in Wh/mile, are you UK guys getting in reality?

I note one forum member's display (tn1krr) is showing 25kWh/100km. That translates for the UK, to ~400Wh/mile. That's what I read is in the expected range for combined winter driving.

As I don't see much chance for meaningful regeneration on my typical trip, looking very tight for my desired use on EV.

Can you read the instant/real time energy consumption, say at 60mph?

Charged the car to 100% earlier, which was showing a range of 26 miles (result, lol) just looked at the app and its showing 22 miles. Is that normal!

Mine sat with 1 mile at 100% charge on the app yesterday, car said 23, actually got 34 miles on electric on a 72 mile trip. Pretty certain it's more or less random.

It's also somehow managed to regen 4 miles from dead flat this morning in a 5 mile run on the motorway.

I’ve just become accustomed to the fact that my 330e has “Electric Range Tourettes” and constantly spews out random range values every time I look at the dash.

Yes you can, if in Electric mode. Will post when I've got a figure for you.

Very interested in consumption at different speeds.

BTW, can you select instant and/or average, as you drive?

Yep, it shows you both at the same time. Will try 30 and 60.

Is BMW taking the piss with this proposed electric range?

In the cold weather I normally start the day with a full battery and Ann estimated range between 22 and 24 and most days with a mixture of motorway and A roads I normally hit the 22 mile before my battery indicator shows - - -

For a couple of mornings I’ve noticed something a little strange (unless it’s my maths)..

As normal, start today with the battery showing a range of 24 miles, in Hybrid mode and a short .3 mile trip to the childminders the electric range has already dropped to 23, I turn off the car, walk 15 step to the door to drop off my daughter return to the car after a 2 minute chin wag and the estimated battery range has now dropped to 19!!!!!

Where the F has the 4 miles gone in the 2 minutes chat?

Ignition turn off - 23 miles
2 minute chat
Get back in the car - 19 miles

Yes I get that it’s cold outside and range will be effected but how can it reduce the range by 4 miles sitting there doing nothing.

It can’t be pre heating the car, nothing was left on, everything off and locked.

Sorry to harp on, it’s a great car to drive but the little niggles are starting to catch up with the good things I love about this car.

It based it off of the most recent journey, lots of stop start will reduce the estimation of range. The battery (motor) is most efficient when used for constant speed driving. If you reset your mpg before driving 0.3miles in an ice car you would see dramatically poor mpg aswell
