Supposedly confirmed for Aus:

unfortunately i don't think so . They canceled better sold cars from the North American market, they will leave only Alpina as an Touring alternative!

I've been seriously considering the Alpina but it comes with less power and softer suspension.

Good point, but you forget that we bought into the "Ultimate Diving Experience."

Tracks have no speed limits ... 200 isn't really doable but 150+ is...
Also.... Mexico is surprisingly accessible from any of the states so people oftentimes take a quick trip down there when they want to do a few high speed blasts.

Got one eye on this. Once the aftermarket develops a front bumper fix, this could pull me away from the RS6 and save me a couple bucks. Assuming it's even coming to the US market.

Finally.... it was about time for that step. I'd have loved a F80 touring . Now we have to wait for the final twin coffin design.

I don't think anyone is disputing the reasons against the M3 coming to the US - we understand. But there's a rebuttal for all of them:

- "X3M is already selling well in the US" - ok well that is true around the world yet other countries will get it
- "BMW told Motor Trend etc that it is not coming" - ok but haven't they said this before about making an M3 Touring at all
- "there is no G21 sold in the US" - sure but is there an A6 or S6 Avant sold in US (understand the All-road is here)

Bottom line is we're allowed to dream so LET US DREAM. 24 hours ago we were all saying that there is no way, zero chance, etc etc of BMW making an M3 Touring. Now we've accepted they will make one but we've resorted to saying there is no way, zero chance, etc etc of BMW bringing it to the US. If there was truly no chance then BMW would have made that very clear on their website so that people buy the sedan or the X3M instead of waiting for a Touring that is never coming. I think there is a low chance sure, but they are considering it and they are appropriately setting expectations low by saying no through car mags.

No not really. It's a combination of cheap fuel and favorable tax structure with lack of public transportation.

Diesel is taxed at a higher rate because tractor trailers and HD trucks use diesel and cause the most wear-n-tear on the highways.

The annual tax rate for passenger cars and light trucks is based on their total value rather than engine displacement or CO2 emissions.

Finally there isn't a large well established public transportation system which would require subsidizationt that, in part, would come from ridiculously high sales tax rates on cars/trucks.

You can effectively get a M340i in Australia by buying an Alpina B3 wagon. I think that bringing in only the 330i was a deliberate move by Australian dealers to leave a little space in the market for the Alpina.

The B3 is closer to the M3 than you might think - it has the S58 for the first time but it's own bespoke dampers, springs, software etc. I am seriously considering one despite this awesome announcement as it doesn't suffer from pig face.

It's pig face + focussed chassis + wide body kit vs normal face + road chassis + sleeper

Personally the Alpina has a level of cool I admire.

The Alpina configurator is a lot of fun. Choosing where you want your Alpina logos and how much is too much to spend on leather. Comes in about 50% more than a 340. Sure the M3 will be a broadly similar price, though. https://www.alpina-configurator.com/gb
