So I've been listening with the AlphaOne amp upgrade on my Hifi system for about 2 weeks now and while it is definitely much better than on the stock amp, it still feels like Im not quite there with how I want the sound.
I'm curious what have others done in regards to the speaker & sub upgrade? Is it worth going with the Alphaone speakers & subs to match? Theyre quite pricey... Any other decent options? Also one thing I've noticed with the Hifi is that the sound is very front-heavy in the car as all of the speakers except the 2 in the rear doors are up front. It's not that bad but definitely lacks the "surround" experience without the extra speakers in back. |

To answer your question the AlphaOne amp alone did increase the overall system volume and helped out a lot, but the bass and system as a whole was still very meh. I went forward and got the full AlphaOne speaker & sub upgrade for the HiFi system and I can say now that it is MUCH better than the base system. I still need to play around with the amp tuning but I am so much happier now than when I had the the base Hifi system. The only thing as I mentioned in my previous post is that because all the system is in the front of the car (with only 2 midranges in the rear doors). It is a bit front-heavy sounding. But bass from under the seat packs a punch and overall gets way way louder. Now at max volume its actually too loud. On the base Hifi you could turn the volume to max and it would be way too quiet still. Unfortunately I don't have a harmon-kardon 3 series around to compare it too but I imagine this is better except for the "surround" sound part of the HK with all the extra speakers in back. Again it was pretty pricey and I'm not sure if its really worth the cost overall, but if you have the funds then I'd definitely recommend it. |

I went with a pretuned match up dsp8 from allwoodsaudio. I plan to add some underseat 2 ohm subwoofers if that’s not enough |

I truly think the HK system in the G20 is not as good as the Fxx. HiFi came a long way and I believe the difference in sound in the two is not that huge. Of course, if you compare it to the base audio system that comes in some 320i in Europe, that is totally mediocre.

I came from a 2016 GTI with fender as well. It was way better than the stock hi-fi system in my 330i. I ordered a match up dsp8 amp from allgoods audio eBay store. Install was easy with the battery in the trunk and the included wire harness was plug and play.
I tuned it using the base tune supplied by the seller and tweaked from there and it sounds amazing-def better than the fender system in my GTI. I did not change the speakers, and the stock speaker sound great. They’re clear Crisp and precise. I bumped up the under seat subwoofer gain a little bit and change the crossover which definitely improved the bass output, but was still missing those Sub bass notes. I ended up adding a 500w Rockford amp using the line out on the dsp amp and bought a 12” ported Jl sub. My sestem is now perfect one of the best I’ve had in any car. I will not change the stock speakers. |
