Mission Performance - M-Link Install and Review

I have recently received and utilize the M-link from Mission performance to unlock my 2020 M340i :-)

I will be breaking it down here on this page and updating as the process goes.
——————————————————————————————————————

Right from the start it arrived quick from USPS and I was able to power it up with a USB-c and update the M-link from their platforms page.

After messing with the unit and getting comfortable I took the post warranty plunge and went for the unlock. (Still waiting on what tuning platform I want to use )

After following the prerequisites on their page (Disconnecting all battery's and letting it sit open for 10 minutes) I started unlocking the harness.

Easy step just take a picture to know where the OEM plugs go back

Advice -
Make sure your plugs are fully seated and give them a light pull to make sure that they are connect.

Plugging into port 1 and port 5 was easy. If you wonder which plug goes into port 1 it has all the pin connectors on it (use your eyes and see which has the most pin holes)

after plugging in, power on the device and let it do a full cloud backup of the DME. follow that up with downloading the DME data for safe keeping.

Final step is hitting unlock and you are all set.

Overall the process is extra simple.

I would give it a 4.8 out of 5 - the plugs should have more color coding to know which goes in what socket for ease of use. They should have a confirmed unlock feature also to confirm you didn't mess it up.

I will report back post tune in the next couple days

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE (Flash Tuning) -

I decided to start with a stage 1 tune with Bootmod3.

The BM3 flasher said I was still locked but it aloud me to flash no problems

Easy flashing process thanks to the M-Link unlock.

No issues at all and the car runs great

TheJungatron Thanks for your review, that is very much appreciated! Funny that you mentioned the confirmation message after unlock: That is something a few others suggested and is currently being worked on. Should be added to the withe 2.1.4 or 2.1.6 update and will make a post-unlock messaging be much more prominent and assertive.

Regarding the plugs: We are looking for a better way to mark them, however we are using the OEM connectors which limits the color choices to black. The red harness ziptie was added to make it a bit more distinguishable, though still a bit hard to see. That is something being looked into but no promisses. However, each plug and connector are unique to each other, which means it is not possbile (aside from hammering them in) to place a wrong plug on the DME terminal.

How do I find my Build Date?

I have a 2020 M340i xDrive, but I am not sure how I determine what my actual build date is. Is it the "In Service Date," or something else.

The reason I ask is I'm trying to determine whether my car was built before the June 2019 cut-off for unlockable DMEs (to see if my car is currently supported for the MP M-Link).

Any insights are much appreciated.

The M-Link supports DMEs upto June 2020, so your vehicle is suported. Pretty much as long as your registration doesnt say 2021 on the vehicle, you are good.

Colorful shrink tubing would work, be durable and not look cheap. You could use yellow and lime green. I don't think these connections have a color on the factory DME connections, otherwise I'd suggest to just match those.

Got a little delayed due to the M-Link development, however we are all here now but keeping Cali location still open for now most likely. What a crazy year for sure!

We have done the full adaptive (E65 to E85) flash back in 2019 and few members on these boards ran it, however that was mostly for price-per-mile reasons. Being power biased, the adaptive E30 makes the most sense as anything over that mixture, you are running out of fueling vs air delievery(turbo).

And Im glad the M-link worked well for you

Thanks, I had a brain freeze - I got my car in 2019 so of course it would be supported! Anyway, ordered the Super License yesterday. Any idea when shipping will resume?

Many thanks,
Sherman

MissionPerformance Pardon my noobness, but I’m struggling to determine whether or not this will work for my car. 2020 M340i and the date on the door says 07/20. With supported DME’s being ‘All Pre-June 2020 MG1’, does that mean I’m hosed? Or can my DME have a different date than what the inside of my door is telling me?

This just had me confused -
“Pretty much as long as your registration doesnt say 2021 on the vehicle, you are good”

Thanks in advance!

Thats actually a good idea and factory plugs do have colored electrical tape on them that falls off few years in, however we probably could match same colors with the shrinkwrap.

Thats actually a tricky production date. 99% of July 20 production vehicles had DMEs with production way before the cutoff as BMW was using old stock. However, we did see 1 vehicle with such production and newer DME. We are not sure if it was intenional at the assembly, or DME was repalced under warranty for some reason. However, with that being said, it would be very prudent to pull the DME up and look at the sticker to check the production date. You can send us the picture of the white sticker on the DME and we can tell you if its unlockable or not.
