My attempt at fixing curb rash
The other night I went to back up into an end spot at the grocery store. Right when I started to back up, a pedestrian was walking through the lot and I stopped to let them go through since it was raining. Well he was giving me the go ahead to park first so in a hurry I started backing in. The camera was wet and it was dark so I misjudged where the curb was and I got it good with my driver rear. No wheel package so off to youtube I went.
I did a dremel grind wheel then hand sanded with 600 then 1500. It turned out okay. I did it until I started to think it looked worse the more I did it. I messed up and slipped the dremel a couple times which got the painted part. Oh well. At least the rash is gone. I can deal with the imperfections. |

The one tip I can give is use some pressure on the flap wheel but don't sit in one spot. It will dig if you do so use pressure and go back and forth over the whole rash and even past to make things as even as possible. I used the high speed on my two speed dremel. https://www.amazon.com/Dremel-502-3-...5733800&sr=8-9 |

I just had my diamond cut alloys powder coated black as my car came with 791m bi colour wheels, hopefully these will be easier to mask with a black marker pen 😂 |

@Sight22 ,
Appreciate your post. I had curb rash on two wheels as well. I ordered the flap wheel you suggested as well as some 520 grit wheels for dremel. Bought some 1000 & 3000 sand paper & used to finish. Now all I have to do is re-coat with ceramic. Thanks for the tip!

I had mine done at a local alloy wheel refurb place located near a bunch of main dealers, they had loads of new cars in the car park obviously from the dealers which inspired some confidence. I paid around £400 including vat for all 4, imo they make the car look 10 times better, I also have the full m sport kit fitted which suits the alloys even better.

I've got the same wheels as RSnic in his pics above. Just sanded out some minor curb rash on one wheel. Now just need to finish off. Question - are the wheels lacquered? Or just polished?

Always being super careful and never letting my wife or valets drive my car I avoided curb rash on my last 3 bmw leases.
My 4 month old 330 is a different story. I carelessly backed up and scraped a landscaping Boulder on my passenger rear 791M black wheel. I plan on using the dremel technique explained in this thread but I'm wondering what I can use to touch up in black Thanks! |
