Tip: The Rear Center Headrest can be flipped down
Maybe something obvious - but in my F30 this wasn't an issue. Ever since I've had my G20, I've been annoyed that my rear visibility isn't that good because the center rear headrest gets in the way.
I kept meaning to remove the headrest entirely - and recently finally got around to doing it. I pressed on the button on the right side (if you're facing the trunk from inside the car) and it flipped down, making rear visibility a lot better. Maybe most cars come with it flipped down? I was thrilled to have better rear visibility. |

It flips down in the F30 as well. In fact, there was an option code to have all three headrests flip down.

Even with flipped down, it does not outbeat the visibility of the centre headrest removed. No one sits there, so mine is stored in the trunk.
I find the centre headrest useless. |

In mine, only the centre headrest has the button. The other two don’t. I specifically checked because the 2020 X3 I test drove had folding headrests on all three rear seats. I went to my car right after that and only found the middle one to be folding.
Edit: Did a bit of googling. The European 3 series comes with foldable headrests on all three rear seats. American ones don’t. |

Ahh I see? I don't understand sometimes how they can be so different from one country to the next. What difference does haven't folding headrests make lol.

I thought only Audi did that. I now see that almost every manufacturer does it. Probably different rules and regulations? The Audi A4 B9 in Europe has short headrests compared to the big ones on the American model. Many people buy those (European) headrests because it looks better and increases visibility. Similar in the case of the 3 series too I see.

I've always wondered why car companies never adopted the folding headrests feature from older Mercedes and new Volvo's. I had a rental S60 once and it easily became my new favorite feature to easily drop the headrest without removing them through a button.

You're in the UK that's why. Canada and the US get fixed outboard headrests and a folding center one.
