Just want to say thanks to forum members for recommending Steve Thomas BMW. Jimmy is a super nice guy and everything was straight forward. Picking up at the Performance January 30. I’m excited to get back in a 2020 M340i. It’s been a few years since my last BMW, a 2014 335i.

I would like to do a PCD since I'm not too far from Greenville/Spartanburg. Reached out to a few dealers through email and phone and haven't had many responses. Any recommendations of dealers who aren't shy about doing a deal through phone/email?
Greg Poland at Pacific BMW in California does long distance deals regularly. He is active on B'fest. Jay Pichardo at Tulley BMW in Nashua, New Hampshire is very active on Bimmerpost. It's easy to find his posts in the general G20 forum. Jimmy Bach at Steve Thomas BMW has a post just a few posts before this one. Jon Shafer at BMW of Santa Maria, CA. He's the founder of B'fest.
Care to share who from this list is able to do 10% off?
Shoot for close to $10k off, not just 10% off. There is a ton of inventory on the new m340i - a quick search on cargurus shows that there are 1449 of them nationwide. It's just another commodity product unlike the much rarer m3.
Yes I was able to get 8% off a build order and another 4k off with incentives. Payment with max MSD's is around $500/month + tax. Took me months of working with dealers around the country before I got somebody to bite.

I just shot him an email.

One of my questions was about how to approach the negotiation of the MSRP. My ex, who is in the car business, did all the work for me. It's nice when you know all the sales tactics.

So do I just start with, "let's talk MSRP"? I want 10% off!

I'm totally clueless and don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

Try a range. Say I'm looking to get 11-13% off. They'll shut you down fast. Then you can negotiate down to 10.5% or something. If they don't bite initially, don't worry they'll call you the next day or day after to work out some numbers. And if they don't, try another dealer. Work with like 2-3 at a time.

Got to be willing to put in the time and effort for it, it's the one thing I hate since I know they can do it but make the task so hard, exhausting and painful to deal with.

I think primarily you want to be a zero-problem customer ready to order immediately. Run through the options you want, the lease/finance details, make it clear you know the incentives and that you have a clear (immediate) timeline. Ask about their allocation status and offer to put down a deposit in the next few days if they have any unclaimed. Have a build code and MSRP of your order ready, obviously you may want advice on an option or two. Mention you have great credit (assuming that's true) and can get pre-approved asap, if you're doing MSD's, etc.

I pretty much did the above, then said I know people are getting 10%-12% off on these cars right now, I'm not going to shop around if you can hit that mark. I got 11% before incentives ($3,500) and picked up my M340ix last week. MSRP was around 65k and I went with a 36 month lease, 12k miles, monthly was $560 with full MSD's. I know some folks have done a little better or worse but I was pretty happy with it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The goal is to do as much work up front as possible as the customer, so that the sales person sees it as a no nonsense "easy sale" which requires little time/effort on their part, all they need to do is agree to the numbers.

Traditionally it's been the opposite. Clueless customers coming in, sales people have to do all the work (because that's what the customer expects) and at the end of the day both parties are left with a bitter taste and not as good of a deal as you could have gotten.

Thanks guys! I've done all the research, picked out a vehicle that matches my criteria and now the game begins. I'm returning my 340i M Sport so I'll be getting the loyalty discount.

I just need to see what the December incentives are. I heard they didn't change from November.

My deal was based on Performance Center Delivery. I was quoted a price I found fair for that and accepted it. I’m sure if I was buying a vehicle in stock or picking up at the dealership the price would have been different.

Performance Center Delivery has no impact on pricing. If a salesperson is leveraging that against you outside of scheduling reasons, call them out on it. I'm quoting the BMW sales manager on that, so anyone with specific exceptions feel free to correct me.

UPDATE - I spent most of my free time yesterday negotiating with 3 BMW dealers here in the Phoenix metro. And what a ride...

My preferred dealer, and the closest to me, is playing hard ball. Best I've got them down to is 5.3% on the MSRP. Another dealer was doing something shady with the numbers. 6% off MSRP supposedly and yet the payment was higher. Okay... I asked him the send the quote sheet and he never did.

The third dealer said they would take off 10% right off the top. They're the newest dealer in town and they want to make a good name for themselves. Or at least that's what they're telling me. However, they refused to send me the quote sheet as they feared I would shop it around.

So. I will be making a visit to the third dealer this Saturday to see what happens. I hope they make good on what they've said, but I just have a feeling something is going to get padded somewhere.

We'll see.

This dealer in no way said there was a fee for performance center delivery and there were no hidden charges. Everything was presented clearly in an email. My previous post was a poorly worded.

There were a few dealers I contacted that did want to charge for “the paperwork” required for PCD. I politely passed on those offers.

Most dealers don't like to send the worksheet because that exact reason, shopping around. If it doesn't work out try out of state dealers, you definitely get 10% at a minimum somewhere.

I completely agree with paragraph 1. Know exactly what you want - all colors/options. Know how you will pay for it - exactly. Be ready to deal - TODAY.

I'm not too sure about the math in paragraph 2. 11% of a $65K car equals $3,500?

All that said, if you want the max deal, don't forget that the SA's time is valuable. If you can convince him that you are a QUICK & EASY sale, he can afford to give you his best price. I dealt with Greg Poland of Pacific BMW, and I'm the happy owner of a new M340.

I could be wrong but I believe the $3,500 he is referring to is the incentive amount. (i.e. $2k loyalty plus $1k lease cash plus $500 in other incentives he may have qualified for).

Right, extra $500 for USAA, $3k is loyalty plus lease incentives.

I was able to get 8.4% off my build so this sounds very similar to my deal.

I got an early car so my deal probably isn't relevant any more. I also did MSD
So, with min drive off, MSD,MSRP around $62k, 10k mi, no mark up on MF I'm paying 695/mo. I think I got close to 10% off msrp with incentives. Don't remember for sure but that was really good in early May, I think.
( But I am a repeat customer....)

It's for an M340i off MSRP. I think that's total incentives.
