Thanks for the reply and you answered what was going to be my follow up question - I knew "a plant" was closed for i4 tooling but didn't know it was affecting g20's. My SA kept telling me he didn't understand why BMW wouldn't move up my week 37 build but that's our answer!

Hi All,
Let me share my experiences from Japan, although my order is still underway. Unlike BMW US, Japanese dealership doesn't open up the status tracker to customers. Nor we have BMW Genius services. So, my only information channel is via my sales rep. 1/21 Placed an order for my "individual" G21 M340i Touring xDrive. [Individual Items] Tanzanite Blue II paint / Full Merino Ivory / Piano Black trim / Rear Seat Heater 2/6 Received info that my car's production resumes on 14th week. (i.e. Mar 30-) At this point, ETA was no later than end of May. 3/21 German factories shut down for COVID-19. 5/4(ish) Factories resumed production. 6/13 Received update that production status was 154 (in production) as of 6/10, and received a VIN code. Found from VIN decoder that production was started on 6/6. 6/25 My Sales rep found that tracker hit 155 (Production Completed) as of 6/16. 7/9 The Sales rep reported that my car was chosen for the sample check for the production internal audit. (how lucky I am!!) And the 2 weeks audit process was about to finish! ... 7/11, 7/19, 7/30 3 ships had already departed Bremerhaven port for Japan but no update for my order hitting "195 Shipped from Port of Exit". (as of today) Next ship will depart sometime early Aug and the following one is late Aug. Either case, delivery will be no earlier than early October.... sigh. 8/8 Update from sales rep : the vehicle was at the port as of Jul 22nd and on the ship departed Bremerhaven as of Jul 31st. 8/21 Update from sales rep : vehicle registration will likely takes place within September 8/26 the ship I had been stoking spotted through webcam around the port of Durban, South Africa. 9/11 the ship is now navigating through Malacca Strait and the ship operator refreshed ETA to Chiba Port(Sep 23) . Dates getting more certain. Signed the purchase contract as all duties/costs/discount/valuation for old car is finally fixed. Sales rep confirmed that delivery will be no later than Oct 10.(^^) Last edited by M340iTjp; 08-28-2020 at 07:40 AM.. Reason: Updates as of Aug 28th. |

I feel the same. Luckily my sales rep in Japan at least off-line report to me the key status, but is too indirect.

What's the current estimate on length of time between "scheduled for production" (in the queue) and "started production/body assembly"? For Mexico plant, that is.

He was then able to get me into the earliest production slot allowed by BMW for a RWD. And better yet (at least I believe so), it's being built in NA (which I assume means the Mexico plant), so hopefully quicker turnaround in terms of once it's built, getting to my local dealership. Scheduled for production week of 8/23...so fingers crossed! Thanks, again!
