My argument to having my phone bill (for example), going up 16%, way ahead of inflation, and their excuse being cost of living was - have you (the call centre guy), had a 16% pay increase? He answered sheepishly “no”. Inflation is a short-term problem, and has already flattened, and in most cases apart from food, we’re already in a deflation situation. It is pure profiteering - everyone always looks at maintaining % margins, but the cash that generates is huge. Most private sector companies are declaring record profits! Granted, that’s all within their rights as a private business, but no one seems to care about doing the right thing these days. Anyway, rant over!

My insurance renewal on my 840i isn’t due until August thankfully - but fully prepared for a ridiculous renewal ask. For reference I pay just over £600 a year right now (paired with my home insurance), 12k a year and business use.

I've always found SwiftCover to be competitive.

Renewed mine end of January with General Accident, went from £291 to £348 for the year. Standard 2021 M340i saloon with no mods. Age 58, clean licence and 12 years + NCB, 14,000 miles per year, fully comp plus business use and £250 excess. Was annoyed with increase but seeing other posts guess I still have a good deal!

I was also in January, a increase in about £80, I think I was £420 this year. From what I'm reading, most folk have renewed this month which is where the massive price hike is. I'm putting that down to the new financial year.

It would be interesting to know roughly where you live in Scotland. Your age & NCB are similar to me but I'm pretty sure I'd not be able to get a price like that with my Leeds postcode. It costs me more for a 330i

Similar age, mileage and with business use as me. Cheapest I could get for a non modified M340D in the North East starting in March was £700 which was up on the £430 I was paying for last year. I know location matters but that much?

I’ve been impressed with Aviva online was with them last year and had my Black M340i G21 stolen from Drive in January this year after thieves broke in whilst we were asleep stole keys so no fault.
They paid out within a couple of weeks giving me the value my vehicle would be to buy from a dealership. Insurance was due in February so after travelling to Lloyds Blackpool to pick my new 20 plate equivalent M340i G21 with every pack going in Tanzanite Blue was expecting to get hit hard.
Went on the comparison sites best was £580 with an unknown name to me. Aviva came up with £620 on comparison site but lo and behold Aviva offered me £437 to renew up from £387 that’s with a £600 excess same as last year. 62 years old 10,000 miles amazed after they had just paid me out £40,000 for a replacement car.
Bit of advice I’ve found every time I add my other half as a named driver it reduced the amount of the quote.

When I renewed in January, quotes were around £500-600, just checked and they're now more like £700-800. Mid 50s, low mileage, only one incident (no claim).

Wow I must have got a right deal with my M340d, it added £175 to my Multi-Car policy which had 10 months to run. (Back in November) Total of £800 for the Range Rover and the M340d

31 Year Old male M340d £589 for the year and I thought I was being ripped off. That’s insured for 10k miles fully comp including use for business!

Just got the car so went live 1st April.

I don’t get the cost of living argument. What the hell has that got to do with anything? Are people having more accidents because their milk costs more or something?

Count yourselves lucky, the cheapest I get for my stock M340i is £1300/yr fully comp for 15k with 2yr NCB no points and a ding back in 2018! I imagine being fairly young is one of the biggest factors.

"Cost of Living" is being used as an excuse for all manner of price gouging.

I was with BMW insurance, got a quote when I was collecting my car and it was 1/2 of my previous insurer, then after 2 years they (BMW!) refused to insure unless I had a Tracker fitted....

I've got a BMW Tracker fitted in mine but they still wouldn't insure me.

Wife was with BMW insurance (for approx £900 odd, 3 years ago) when we first got the M340i as every other insurer was quoting £2-3k. Just had to resist modifying the car in the first year.

After that we've been with A Plan, the price has always hovered around £900 which isn't too bad as she's in her early 30s and started building NCB.

We've just renewed with A Plan this month for just under £1000 with 5 years NCB. The car's got springs, spacers, M Performance rear diffuser, strut brace, air intake, downpipe and a remap.

I'm the same. I paid £368 last year, now the cheapest quote I can get is nearly £700. Thats on a 2020 330i M Sport.

Got my renewal in from Admiral , multicar quote , up £230 from last year ..

Gave them a quick call this morning, and they dropped that to £110 over last years price.

so, £530 for an LCI G21 320i, and a Mk8 Golf 1.5 (150) TSi ..

Not gonna spend the next 3 weeks on the internet trying to beat that.

Just run a renewal on my G21 M340i through Money Supermarket and it's coming out at £391 with a £300 excess with AXA; if I increase the excess to £500 the premium reduces to £327. That's based on a main driver in their late 50's with full NCB, a clean licence and requiring cover for SD&P use only.

In absolute terms the £391 almost sounds reasonable compared to the quotes some others have received but nevertheless in percentage terms it represents a very significant hike on the £300 I paid to Saga last year. However, if the potential cost of accident repairs has gone up (due to increased cost of spare parts, increased labour rates at garages, etc) perhaps it's not entirely surprising?
