Post G2X 3 and 4 Series Production Will Go Extra Long (2027 For G20)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Update: G2x are going to have an unusually long life, 1-2 years longer than the normal 7 year lifecycle.

Latest G2x info:
  • In production until 07/27 (G20) and 10/27 (G21)
  • No fully electric models
  • 03/24: likely date for engine refresh (possibly US specific)
  • 07/24: Iconic glow kidneys optional.

Glow kidneys? What do they look like?

Also are we expecting a hybrid engine for the models to fall in line with the competition?

Sounds like there will be a series of additional updates during this lifecycle outside of the typical LCI.

One would assume the M3/M4 will also be extended?

Probably gives bmw time to get the new platform tip top.

I believe power of choice or a better platform that does ICE, EV and hybrid... Or new battery tech

Remember a large percentage of world isn't for EVs.

It's such a good platform I think it's pretty logical, the F series had poor steering from the start, G series except for a bigger size is pretty flawless.

Good news for M3 buyers.

I would assume similar to the new 7 series in concept probably not as aggressive.

Check out the X6.

And there is a 330e hybrid available.

Probably to not have to deal with supply chain related issues; no one knows when this is all going to blow over, so why rush to sit at a negotiation table with all the vendors for new materials shapes designs etc?

Or it will allow them to finalize the designs and then build up a healthy backlog of supply to avoid instant shortages upon release.

Fully agree Doc! G2x chassis is great. I anticipate an additional revision of the B58 with a bump in power and fuel economy. I wouldnt be sad if a IS or ZHP version comes out. Reset the bar with G20 ZHP!!

Good news for M3 buyers.
It's not that the G20 is such an amazing platform that they've prolonged its production cycle.

BMW needs more time for Neue Klasse 3er R&D is my bet.

Bmw isn't one to leave a model and not keep it fresh, especially for an extended life

Agree I also wonder if the "solid state" batteries and other tech has been determined to be a must include.

It would be interesting to see if this will bring in a mild hybrid powertrain or just a retune of the existing engine.

My bet is that Neue Klasse is right on time but they decided to not offer the NK 3-Series with an ICE option anymore. Zipse already hinted at that in a recent interview. So instead they will offer the G2x for a bit longer to give customers an ICE option.

Basically the same that is happening with the Porsche Macan. Next gen will be electric only and the current Macan got it's second facelift last year so it can last another 3-4 years.

Good point, although if I recall, I've read an article stating they're developing the very last gen of ICE motors so I'm not sure they would ditch the project this far into it.

Either way, something's up.

Makes sense. It's already very competitive in its segment, they can continue to develop it similar to the Macan. Means the age of creamy BMW straight sixes isn't done yet!
