For normal usage, I’d always recommend OEM coolant. It is sufficient for most of us, even those of us who track.

Check both bottles, both have min level markers

Both need to be topped up
The smaller one is for the intercooler (certain models only I think)

It should not be low unless you have a problem.

After 35000 miles mine lost a small amount but no leaks, since topping up about 3 months ago used none

Not necessarily true. The B58 is known to have small leak/evaporation through the top lid. I will randomly at times have 20-30% of my coolant used, even with my normal cruising, slow driving speed manner. Conversely, when tracking, I will have no leak through that seal.
It is documented that some of us have this random leak/evaporation issue that as long as monitored, should not present an issue.

The OP doesn't have a B58 though and in the driver's guide for the B48 is says that loss of coolant should be investigated.

Apologies, meant to say B48/B58 as it has the same coolant design. Yes, of course an investigation to the dealer could be done. Records indicate that the dealer will replace the top/lid, gasket, test pressurized system, and worse case replace the coolant reservoir/tank.
The alternative is to simply check coolant levels and top off as needed.
