Can we code the grill so it remains open?

Would love to do so. And then revert to normal next winter.
I have seen some people dremel the tabs but thats a permanent modification.
And rather not just disconnect it and deal with a CEL.

Thanks!

Following.. I asked about the same and got your same responses. Thought this may be codeable with ISTA as I saw a YT video of someone doing this and I took a screenshot. I was hoping to leave them open to vinyl wrap them

Proof-of-Concept

I asked BimmerCode if they could add it and while they “could”, they won’t because no demand for it

I wouldn’t be bragging about it if it doesn’t work… just a PSA for those who don’t do coding

Wow! What is needed in order for you to do it remotely? Price?

Will it leave them open without any warning lights?
Thanks

Will they stay open permanently as well? I recently had my front bumper and shutter system replaced due to running over a tire on the highway in the middle of the night and despite the body shop sending the car off to be calibrated twice, I’m still getting a CEL for the upper stop not being recognized for the lower shutter system. I’m over it at this point and considering just deleting the active shutters and coding out all the errors.

Most tuning platforms offer the option of keeping grille open at all times. Unfortunately, if your active grill is broken or not communicating properly you would have to replace the grill before trying to make a stay open because I am currently having ya that issue. I cannot have my grill stay open when I try to do it through the tune. It clears a check engine light, but once you start the car up again, the check engine light comes back, and I think this is messing with my tune.
I really don’t understand why Bmw forced these stupid active grilles onto people, especially people who live in California, where the coldest it get is 45°.

Mind sharing the coding variables / steps?

Edit:
Possibly
AKKS (AktiveKühlKlappenSteuerung)
LKS_oben (LüftungsKlappenSteuerung_Oben)
LKS_unten (LüftungsKlappenSteuerung_Unten

in DME ecu, correct?

Would say put everything to 0, say to the vehicle «not installed» but I don’t know if you have use ISTA first to force it in open position first. As you cannot code DME with motor on.

Another trick might be; motor on and hope the go in open position. Then disconnect the cable and code both to 00 and hope you don’t have an error. I don’t know as I don’t have this car.

Editing the AKKS and LKS values will still return an error code, just a different one. The car will tell you that there are erroneous values stored in the vehicle’s code. From my understanding, this needs to be done via E-SYS using the DTC Inhibition menu for that specific module.

Do you happen to know the CC-ID of the error? If you know it can be coded out in KOMBI

I do not. My previous reply is as far as I’ve gotten with my research.

So after some digging, I found out that the “DemDtcInhibition” menu is, in fact accessible from BimmerCode and BimmerUtility expert modes. It’s 3002 under BDC. However, I have not had any luck using it to try to inhibit any of the resulting codes from physically removing my active grilles. The codes still populate as they did before.

From my understanding, you’re supposed to set the first value to 00 to disable the code, and the rest of the values will be the hex value of the error code split into two-character segments.
