Is this proper fitment?

Hey all. Just got quoted the flowing specs for a 2020 bmw M340i rwd, stock adjustable suspension, no intention of lowering. Niche Misano with Michelin Ps4s's.

Front: 19x8.5 offset +34. 235/35/19

Rear: 19x9.5 offset +35. 265*30/19.

I want to avoid rubbing on stock suspension. Sales person said may affect turning radius due to 235 instead of 225 in front. I am concerned about stretch of 225 on 8.5" rims though. Regarding offsets, this is the only one they make that fits this car.

I don't fully understand how to calculate the effect of offset, Soni want to be sure these will not "poke" and the tires will not be too "stretched."

Thanks for any advice.

Joe

bmw noob,

The proposed tires profiles are lower than factory - 35/30 vs 40/35, so the diameter of the proposed tires will be smaller, even with the wider tires. The proposed tires should not cause any clearance issues (assuming you are not lowered).

However, the offset of the front wheels you are considering may be problematic. The current front OE 791M spec is 19 x 8 ET27. With the proposed 19 x 8.5 ET 34, this wheel will be brought 13mm closer to your strut. The wheel to strut clearance with the 791M is ~20mm (by feel). I would recommend a lower offset than OE, e.g. 25ET, if available.

FYI, I used this online tool to assess wheel/tire setups - https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=25mm&sr=0mm

I do not believe you will experience any issues with the proposed rears.

Have you considered staying within the BMW family for wider wheels? Take a look at the G32 wheels - 19 x 8.5 ET25 and 19 x 9.5 ET39. FYI, I am considering the jet black 647Ms...

Thank you both so much for the help. It is very appreciated.

Sounds like spacers would be needed for the fronts to avoid potential issues. I have always stayed away from spacers on principal. However, the more I read, the less concerned I am about using them.

But, if I am going to use spacers, I would just get my first choice wheels (vmr v804) that I decided against because they require front spacers no matter what due to the offsets available.

Is there any reason to avoid hub centric spacers (assuming a quality brand ecs tuning, bms, eibach) are used?

Also Larry, when you say there is around 20mm clearance, how much is needed for "regular driving" and turning radius to avoid rubbing the struts etc? I can play around with the offset calculator to compare wheels knowing how much closer the wheels can safely be.

I too avoid spacers if I can. Up in Canada, we use salt in our winter season and have had spacers seize to the wheel hub more than once.

I think quality hubcentric spacers are fine.

Regarding your question on min clearance, I think this is a matter of preference but wheels do flex under stress, how much? I do not know but I would hope very little. I personally feel more comfortable if there is at least 10mm of clearance. Now sometimes 10mm clearance is not possible.

The 20mm clearance I mentioned in my earlier post was just an estimate using my finger to measure by reaching my hand into the wheel well and around the wheel. If you want to go with 8.5" ET35 in the front, I would recommend you measure the clearance accurately. We do know the clearance will be reduced by 13mm with the wheels of interest when compared to OE.

Sorry to be such a pain... Haha. The v704 come in offset of +35 for fronts. So with a 15mm spacer the front ends up being +20 offset (right?)

At offsets of +20 / +35, it seems 235/40/19 and 265/35/19 should be no problem for rubbing or turning radius. Does that sound right to you? One member here already confirmed he has no rubbing with those exact specs.

I agree, I do not believe this setup will cause rubbing.

I have 235/40/19 on 19x8 ET30 winter wheels. They fit nicely in front and rear but for your purposes the front is most relevant. As stated, try to go with a lower offset than 34.

For diameter, 235/40/19 and 265/35/19 are much more appropriate and should be able to fit easily with the correct offsets.

Thanks to all for your help. I pulled the trigger and ordered a set of vmr v804, custom powder coat gloss anthracite. Sizes 19*8.5/9.5. Offsets are +35, so I will use a 15mm burger tuning spacer for fitment. Tires will be Michelin ps4s 235/40 265/35.

Can’t wait to post some pics!
