There was someone on the forum that wrote that exhaust with part number 18302464492 is in fact the stock exhaust, just a European version. So this “MPE” is not even a true M-Performance exhaust, just an OEM exhaust for M-Performance car.
His reasoning was that European exhaust have stricter emission standards due to the laws there, therefore need for slightly different exhaust. That would all explain low price- $1,500 and sound that is the same as stock exhaust. On top of that friendly reminder that first production cars were pre-tuned (BMW didn’t realize that) and later they were down tuned with the new DME update. That would mean that BMW has the tune, so why releasing just exhaust for $1,500 when they can release an entire M Performance Power and Sound kit and bump up the price to ~$3,000, and get much higher profits. I agree videos can be deceiving because of the placement of the microphone, but I do also agree also that the 3 videos sound very close to / similar to the OEM exhaust. The only assessment we can go off of is Jason340Msport and he says it made a big difference compared to OEM - with his comments, I would tend to say it is the phone / videos that maybe aren't showing it off well enough. It would help if maybe he could do a side by side video with an OEM M340i compared to Jason's. We are about 2 hours apart -- I would be willing to drive an hour or so to meet up and do the side by side video and comment - but since Jason works at a dealership I'm guessing he has access to stock M340i's on the lot that he could do this with. This is definitely something I'm interested in though - I really miss the sound of my 2017 340i with MPPSK. |

I will get a side by side of a stock M340 with mine and hopefully that will bring out the difference. Depending on the day(Saturday evening or Sunday morning) I would be willing to meet up as well. |

I think some people are assuming that the "MPE" is a full non-resonated system for this car (straight mid section plus muffler) like the Fx was for the MPSK...
this is simply just a muffler...

Just placed an order for mine at my dealer. Was sure to ask the parts manager if this differed from the stock exhaust and he said that this was indeed the M performance exhaust.

Does the standard M340i exhaust even have the 2 resonators that the 340i stock one had? Looking at the diagrams it seems like its a straight pipe from the downpipe to the muffler.

I believe that is correct, which is why he said it is just a muffler. The pipes are just to make it mostly bolt on

Is there a difference between comfort and sport plus after the installation?
I was hoping to have a choice to start quietly in comfort mode especially during cold start. |

MPE was my FAVORITE mod on my F10 and I will definitely order one for the M340.
How it sounds is subjective. Some loved the way MPE sounded on the F10 and some indicated that it was too quiet. IMO, it was just right and it is OEM! If you are looking for a straight pipe sound, this is probably not for you. But if you are looking for something that you know is there, and sounds just right and civil, MPE is for you.

So I finally got mine installed, big thanks to Jason340Msport for taking the first leap. Like many of you, the video between stock and MPE sounded far too familiar but according to Jason it sounded much better in person so I took the risk. I can now confirm there is a notable difference between the two that the audio in the clips aren't able to catch. In person, the MPE sounds far different from stock and is a lot deeper sounding now which I felt was missing from the stock exhaust. Thanks again for the clips Jason!

In comfort mode, it's marginally louder than stock comfort and I'm getting some muted burbles and pops as opposed to very little or none at all but again still very subtle so it is still significantly quiet in Comfort compared to S+. I find the burbles and pops to be a lot louder in S+, prior to MPE I got the loudest pops coming off a freeway ramp with some hard deceleration but now it's almost consistently as loud. All around in S+ it's louder and deeper. Best example I can give is that with stock S+, if I had music 3/4 of the way the music would often times drown out some of them but now I can consistently hear it through the music. The most noticeable thing is my cold starts. Jason pointed this out earlier but right off the bat you can tell the MPE apart from stock on a cold start. My car was already pretty loud in the garage but now with the MPE there's a really noticeable difference. I have to pull out of the garage immediately to prevent pissing off neighbors since the car roars in there. |
