330i regrets - should have gotten the M340i

I leased my G20 330i M sport back in March. Now that the M340i is out I regret not waiting. Does anyone know of any reasonable recourse? I'm pretty sure there isn't any that wouldn't be insanely costly and idiotic but thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone knew of anything. Thanks!

Depends if you put down MSD's (might lose those) and how good your lease rate is.

You could always put it on swap a lease / or similar sites & forums to get someone to take it over.

Then get yourself into that other lease. Just a thought....

As an auto broker, I see this pretty often (especially here in Florida).

There are two common courses of action:

1. Have someone take over your lease - Did you get a good deal? What is your monthly payment? Are you willing to provide an incentive to a new lessee (give them cash to take over your lease/pay the transfer fee?)

2. Pay off the car - What is your current payoff through BMWFS? You will be able to see this online and then compare it to the value of the car on the used market (KBB is a useful research, as are the several online car-buying services you have out in California).

What is the MSRP on your car and your lease payment? I'd be happy to give you some friendly advice, feel free to PM me.

bimmer813 laid out your two options. There are ways to get out of your lease but it depends on how good of a deal you got and how much you're willing to pay now. I've seen people getting $800/month on M3 CS and was able to transfer it to someone else for no additional incentive.

Swapalease. Works quite well. Offer a reasonable incentive to move the car quicker. Someone will want to take over your car assuming pricing is decent and remaining mileage is at or above contract.

Do you want to take over mine?

While I thoroughly enjoy this car, living in ATL doesn't allow me to really enjoy all the power...

Another option is to trade it in on another car like the 340 but it is likely you have zero equity in your car and it would likely cost you a lot since I’m sure the car depreciated a good bit from when you bought it.

I drove the M340i and 330i MSport and actually preferred the 330i. The M340i felt heavier and less agile. Granted neither can compare to E46.

The only question I had was what I was missing in the limited slip differential.

Enjoy It!

I've driven a couple of M330s and found them both quick and enjoyable to drive.

Road & Track says the M330's steering gear is a new design and may be better than the steering gear from the M340, which is a revised version from the previous generation 3er. The steering feel may also be enhanced due to the fact that the 4-cylinder engine's lighter, which improves weight distribution.

You'll take a beating financially if you get the M340 at this point, so why not enjoy the M330 for a few years and then get the 6-cylinder car when it's semi-financially feasible to do so.

Think of it this way: how often do you think you would really get to enjoy more power from a M340 vs your 330?

I kind of feel the same as you do sometimes, in that I also have some remorse about getting a 330 rather than a M340 (part of which is probably caused by me spending too much time on this site ). But when I remember that ~90% of my driving is in heavy traffic situations, I then think I made the right decision.

Enjoy your 330i. It’s still way more powerful than the majority of cars you see on the road.

You can also put your lease for takeover on this board. I did it when I had to get rid of my 2018 340 and it worked fine.

Well there might be an M340i and a 330i M-Sport up soon then if anyone is interested.

I love mine, but honestly it's well more than what I need.
