For some totally weird and inexplicable reason I went out this morning and found that my expected range had increased to 51kms - despite the drop in temperature to 2c. Up until now it's always been about 38km range and an actual daily range of 28kms. I drove the 10 kms to work and the range is now showing 35kms.

Seems like the system was just trying to give me false hope! The predicted 51km range turned into an actual range of 26km or about 16 miles.

No slow down issues at all with battery getting exhausted. There must be something wrong with your car(s).

It stays like that for some km then.

Not sure if the car is really meant to run for longer km full-electric, at high speed.

Two different cars with the same behaviour (we did get the car the same day tho; can be a problem with a particular production series).

Easy way to test if you "could" get the same as others.
Try a run on the motorway at 10c outside (might take a while thanks to Irish Arctic weather) and keep the speed somewhere at 80-90kmph and see how far you get.
Should be getting 40-50km terrain depending. Start/stop traffic is the worst

I notice sometimes when braking it feels like someone stuck a brick under the brake pedal. I assume it's to do with regenerative braking or something. It's a bit disconcerting as it only happens sometimes and requires a lot more foot pressure to brake than normal.
Also, is free-wheeling (possible in eco-pro) better than regenerating energy and if so how? An attempt was made to explain this to me a while ago but I still don't get it!

The kinetic energy lost from regenerative braking is greater than energy gained from regen.

You basically have to use more energy to get the car back up to speed than if you were just coasting which maintains speed better.

At least that's my limited understanding.

-

Also regarding the brick under the pedal I've felt that too, I think it's based on satnav data when approaching a junction and it auto applying braking

Currently getting 24 miles (38km) electric range when I get in (preconditioned on the mains), guessing its the cold weather?

Got in midday yesterday in the sun and it said 34 miles range (54km)

Overall getting 70mpg, which isn't too bad from a car that will do 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds!

38 kms is good going - I'd love to get that!. I'm getting about 28kms from a full charge with no preconditioning or heated seats etc. I think it's important prospective buyers should be aware that the claimed figures are a joke. It's a great car but 28 kms/17 miles from a full charge is a long way of the claimed range.

Got over 30 miles electric this morning. I'm afraid this really is a case of YMMV

I am getting around 50km daily.
So the numbers are very achievable when it gets a bit warmer.

I got 30 miles / 50km when it was about 5 deg C this morning but my car does live in a garage. Also made sure I preconditioned whilst plugged in before I set off.

Speeds are mixed. First mile 30mph, then onto M60 for few miles at 80mph. Then hit speed restrictions (60/50/40) Then 50mph speed limit for M62 from M60 to M6. Rest of the way is back at 80mph again. I always switch to engine if doing a bit of hard acceleration from say 50 to 80 and then flick back to electric. So 32 mile trip, about half of it is somewhat speed restricted, rest is full speed highway. Flat-ish route, no real hills or mountains. Traffic was fairly free flowing.

I'm very pleased with the car. I've gone from spending £220 a month on fuel to around £95 on petrol and electric combined (electric at work is free, well to me at least!)

Why don't you precondition? I think that is the key to get most electric km during the cold months.

I use the granny cable. Preconditioning eats into the range significantly.

That's the answer then. I charge with 13 amp and precondition with no loss i battery charge. I easyly get around 40 km. And I live in the middle of Norway.
I also see that if you have mane short trips and the car gets cold between the trips. The range will get shorter. It takes a lot of energy to get the cabin warm again. I see the same with the i3.

Great video man, you won a subscriber!

You managed to get 57 kms with ac on and with that external temperature? That's really amazing. As soon as i click the auto temperature, my range drop like 5 to 8 kms.

You use always electric drive, right?
