To do this though follow these steps:

1. Car is warm
2. Place in Sport, wait for valve to open.
3. Disconnect plug from valve motor.
4. (Optional/recommended) Tape the end of the plug with elec tape or something similar.
5. I reconnected it to the motor and made sure it was snug. It protects it from the elements.

And thats it, the valve will always be open. Its easier than the older vacuum ones.
Surely the male terminals on the mating connector will pierce the electrical tape and make contact with the female terminals if it's plugged back in?

You don’t plug it back in. You secure it by cable ties or something similar to the valve body..

See here, page 2 for photos.

Nope, I made sure to add enough tape around the connector fitting so it makes for a snug fit into the socket but it does not go all the way in. Its secured with over 2k kms. You could do the zip tie thing as well. IDK either way its secured and you feel most comfortable

sorry to revive this thread but I'm having the same valve issue but I don't think it's related to software. my last software update was couple months ago but since yesterday I hear the valve closing in drive and opening again in park. exhaust now virtually silent. any info/fix on this issue?

This is normal operation afaik, and behaves the same on my 330i. The valve automatically opens at a certain speed/RPM.
