Questions about JB4 for G20 330i
Hey everyone!
I'm looking to get a JB4 but was wondering if I needed any additional mods to run the MAPs below: Map0: Stock tuning, fully disable JB4 Map1: 3psi over stock added (91 octane) Map2: 4psi over stock added (91-93 octane) Map3: 6psi over stock added (93+ octane) Map4: Absolute target map with peak target of 20psi (93+ and/or 30% E85, EWG connector suggested) Map5: Absolute target map with peak target of 22psi (30% E85+ fuel, EWG connector suggested) Map6: Custom tuning map -- see details on n54tech JB4 page Map7: Progressive WMI map with tuning a function of meth flow and user-defined boost additive. Map8: VALET / Low Boost Map Also what is the difference between "Additive Boost" and "Absolute Boost" Thanks! |

you do not need any additional mods, you just need to right octane.
map 1 is an additive map, it takes the stock boost and adds 3 PSI on every RPM Absolute boost map, the JB4 will try and reach target boost at all time

Is it safe to run the absolute maps on an otherwise stock car?

You need at least the EWG connector and 93 octane. If you are only running 93 octane, you need to datalog and make sure the car is handling the boost well.

I've been running Map 2 with a 91 octane + e85 mixture (around e25) for over 2 months now, logging every time I refuel and sending it to Terry @ BMS. He says my logs look fine, and I don't see any errors popping up when I check codes.
If I'm going to be honest, the JB4 isn't really a plug-and-play solution because you need to make sure that your car can handle what you're throwing at it (as with other mods I guess). If you're looking for a more plug-and-play alternative, JB+ or not modding the car at all is probably your best bet. My current car is probably the last one that I'm going to be modding, the stress of staying on top of everything gets really annoying and worrisome at times haha |

Also, I didn't end up getting a catless downpipe; That CEL would drive me crazy so not worth the gains for me. IIRC, the G20 330i can run up to E25 without issue. That's what I've been doing; I used to meticulously test gas at the station I go to to check for ethanol content and the results pretty much the same every time I tested it so I just input the values into a calculator and put in as much E85 and 91 as necessary. It's probably still a good idea to test the gas every couple of times you get gas to make sure nothing has changed too much. |
