Key Fob Battery

Hi,

Is the replacement of a Key Fob Battery covered by warranty?
My 2023 is 10 months old and the Key Fob Battery is now empty, will the dealer replace it for free?
How does it work? I am going to the dealer for an oil change this week too...
Thanks!

They are just CR2450 batteries which are pretty cheap. Driver’s guide app shows how to swap the battery or there are loads of guides and videos if you search.

Some dealers will just give you a battery for free. BMW warranty replaces key battery every 2 oil services I believe.

Yes, it’s covered under warranty. I called my local dealer to confirm no appointment was needed, since I was already near them. The SA replaced the battery after quickly confirming my phone number. I was in and out within 2 minutes.

Changed mine - the batteries are cheap and wasn't worth the drive to dealership just to get them changed under warranty.

I called two dealers, one said it is covered, the other dealer closer to my house said it's not. So how do I prove it and get them to replace it under warranty?

I would provide VIN and demand under warranty. Conversely, you could just purchase a pack of two batteries for $5-10.

Technically should be covered, but obviously depends on ease to change out or price of battery or if it makes sense to take time out of the day to go get it replaced. Like others said the batteries are cheap I think I bought a 5 pack on amazon for like $4 and easy process to replace. However if you have time then by all means get it done at the dealer if you can.

They cost a dollar or 2, and it is super easy to replace. Don't drive to the dealership to replace a watch battery.

No, they are not covered by warranty. They are included as part of Ultimate Care so for 3yrs/36k miles they will give you free batteries when needed.

It took me about 30 seconds start to finish to replace the battery. 15 seconds of that was opening the new battery packaging.

I wouldn't even consider going to the dealership to replace the battery.
It takes too much time compared to doing it yourself. It's really easy as well. You don't need any tools except for the actual key in the fob to pop the cover.
