Dear Friends,
I carefully read all the posts in this thread, trying to find the answer why my G20 320i (without M suspension) bought in March 2021 is so noisy. Exactly like some other colleagues tryin to figured out about annoying noise from the front wheels, as described here on the forum. I was most puzzled by the fact that it appeared from a mileage of about 4,000 kilometers. Up to this point it was perfect. It bothered me. Yesterday, with the odometer reading of 27,000 kilometers and signaling the need to replace the rear brake pads, I went to the BMW service station in Warsaw (PL). Imagine my surprise, I left again in a quiet car. No annoying noise. Nothing. Apart from the above, only the inspection, oil and cabin filter change were performed. Naturally, I have a hard time understanding how rear brake pads could cause an annoying noise in the front - exactly as you all confirm here, as in the recordings posted in previous posts. I would like to add that about month ago I replaced the tires with new winter Bridgestone ones and the wheels were humming as if they were summer tires. I recommend you to check it out, but since yesterday I am in shock. I just got in the car to go for a ride again - no changes, silence inside as yesterday. |

Hubert's post above, very interesting. (That "after 4000km" bit was identical to mine..)
A quick update from me also: Performace brake discs (slotted), calipers and new pads installed to the front axle. My initial impression is that the noise is indeed less annoying now but it's still there unfortunately. Technincian's impression was the same as mine. However now I'm not so sure anymore that the sound comes clearly from the front. I need to do longer testdrives obviously. So Hubert's post got me thinking. That wheel bearing story above is interesting also. |

Does anyone have this problem in 2021 year build? I ask because I'm about to become an owner of a may 2021 g21 330i with m adaptive dampers.

Well heck, I am trying to buy an M340i via new build slot and between this and the deleted equipment.. not encouraging. I'm reading the thread beginning to end, will keep me off the streets for a bit.
All of the information is really valuable, great thread. Question: Does this issue affect the G26 as well? Last edited by Lakeside; 11-24-2021 at 12:09 PM.. |

FYI this year once again I noticed the noise being WAAAY worse after switching to winter tires, 18" RFT. My summer setup is also 18" but non-RFT - the latter were the factory spec, co maybe I am missing the vibration dampers? Is is possible to check for them without removing the wheels?

By way of update -
I took delivery of my G21 M Sport 330i - RFT Turanza T005 - Adaptive M suspension. No grinding noise so far (phew!). The vibration dampeners are fitted. I mentioned this in another thread but my prior car was a early 2020 330i G20 also FRT and Adaptive M suspension. That car, despite identical suspension, rode harder (Non scientifically by about 15%). BMW definitely made revisions to the suspension of the car for the 2021 model year. The ride in comfort is noticeably more comfort orientated. I suspect certain markets (the USA) complained that the initial Adaptive M suspension was too hard. |

I too have the mentioned sound on a g20 m340i "regular" m sport brakes. I think it showed up, or at least became much more obvious after changing from the summer 19 inch M792 wheels to the winter Continental TS860 SSR 18 inch M790 wheels.
In about 3 weeks I will change back to summer wheels and I can report what the difference will be. Has anyone figured out what the problem is? |

aye!!
i own a 2021 330i with 47500 miles. I've been hearing that "howling" sound as well for about 2000 miles now - you can only hear it when you try to keep the car at speed (no deceleration nor acceleration) - it happens at ALL speed. I finally went to the mothership - I requested a mechanic to test ride with me a listen to that noise - As soon as we got out of the lot, the dude said "i hear it!!!!" i was so relived!! - Today i got a call from BMW - Rear axle failed and they will replace it - all under warranty!! mind you i currently have 47K miles on it ....pheeeewwww |

Hi, first time for me also, experiencing this noise from the day i picked my premium 2019 M340i touring.
I would describe it as a resonance effect from rolling noise perceived in the cabin (mainly from driver position coming from passenger footwell). BMW denies the car has anything, my independant and trusted mechanic immediatly noticed it during the first test drive. As - it's speed related (in a strange way) starting at 40kph and not changing in intensity or frequency, -it seems to be affected by temperature ==> could it be related to the active grille operation logic ? Having them closed could transform our engine bay into a resonance box ? Someone already tried something with that in mind ? |

Same issue with 2020 340dx, 112000km.
Already tried: tires change - no effect left front bearing - no effect noise and vibrio isolation of the wheel arches done - no effect oil in front differential changed to another one with different viscosity - no effect. Moreover I compare the replaced oil from X5, which was replaced like 1 hour before mine and my oil - absolutely no difference. front driveshaft was removed (on another car) - no effect transfer box was turned off on another car - no effect The only thing left - front differential replacement. I was sitting in the car, while it was lifted up and made 160 km/h and a technic was listening to the noises, the only thing that he mentioned that front differential making some small vibration when he compared his noises with the noises from rear differential. |

In the meantime, i tried to soundproof wheelarches, no effect I noticed today that the front wiper trim (part 1 on the picture) was not clipped properly on the right of the windshield (car is LHD). I fixed that I'll give you an update. Also, while soundproofing wheelarches, I was surprised that the water drain outlet (part 6) was located directly behind the wheelarch trim, nearly touching it. This is not surprising if road noise comes through this plastic piece. |
