G21 Mesh Dog Guard - Standard?

I've seen in lots of reviews the G21 having a fabric retractable mesh guard to separate the boot/rear seats.

Is this standard or an optional extra? No packs seems to state this is included.

I don't get my car till next week, but I have heard it is included. However, I also heard that's not much use a dog guard, so I have just bought a Travall guard.

It is included as standard but is not really a dog guard as it's just a fabric net.

Every BMW Touring we’ve had for the past 20 years has had one as standard but we never use it at all, certainly wouldn’t fancy its chances of stopping a 30kg Labrador at any speed! Ours sits on the passenger footwell 90% of the time anyway. The whole luggage net/boot cover thingy is a bit of a pain on the whole, if it wasn’t for the Mrs wanting to keep her golf clubs under wrap, I’d remove it for good.

Yes it's a shame the load cover isn't electric as it is on the 5 series and both the A4 and A6.

Haha snap! I came out of a 520 Touring into a higher priced top of the range 3 series ... and the lack of a motorised luggage area annoys me greatly.

Have used Travall stuff in a 5 Series touring and now in our Passat, it's quality stuff.

Can I ask, does the G21 dog guard allow the seats to fold whilst staying in place? Or does it fix to the seat backs?

I haven’t installed mine yet, but from how it fixes in, I can’t see why the seats can’t fold down. I’ll be pissed off if they can’t!

Yeah I've just had another good look on their website and there's some good pictures if you click on the G21 guard - it definitely bolts to the seat stays so the seats will indeed fold - sorry for the panic!

And you can attach the base further down when the seats are folded, it’s really nice.
