What optional extras to look for?

Hi all,

currently have a F30 340i but now looking to step forwards into the new G20 platform.

What options are worth getting on the G20?

-Are rear folding seats an optional extra still? or do they come as standard now?
-are electric moving seats an optional extra still? or do they come as standard now?

assuming the following 3 packs should cover all bases?
technology plus pack
comfort plus pack
visibility pack

Those three packs (if you've gone for M Sport Pro edition) give you almost everything. I went for those on my 330e touring xDrive, plus merino seats, and a sunroof. I think the only options I don’t get are the tow bar and the upgraded red brakes (which some reckon aren’t as good as the blue brakes unless you're thrashing it round a track).

If you can afford it go for all 3 packs.

I was on a budget, so I went for HK audio,360 cameras, the comfort pack And the lumbar seats. I drove a car with gesture control and heads up display and it didn’t appeal to me. I’d loved to have had the laser lights and all the safety features like funky cruise control, but money was tight!

Fortunately, unlike in the past, none of the packs are essential. They’re very nice to have but as standard the M-Sport is very well equipped. I’d say the only essential options are SPG and lumbar support and SPG is standard on the M-Sport pro. The packs do add a lot of nice stuff though but expensive on a lease.

None of the sound systems are much cop. The basic is terrible, the “advanced” (which for some reason is only on the 330i) is adequate and the HK is reasonable. Compared to the Bang and Olufsen system in the Audi - well, there is no comparison.

I agree Xenon, HK is reasonable and should really be the standard system fitted with options to go higher if you want to spend the money.

I had a B&W in my XJ and it was awesome. My XE was fitted with the Meridian (not surround unfortunately) and it was worse than the HK, no bass, no real sound stage presence at all no matter how much I tweaked it.

I can live with the HK though especially as it came with HUD in the tech pack.

Not sure whether you can get B&W as an option on a UK 3 series - it wasn’t there when I configured mine, but I think it might be available in some other markets.

Maybe it'll be available from 3rd parties as a retrofit at some point.

Yeah I kind of wish I’d spec’d the tech pack but not really for the HK as I mostly just listen to talk sport but I would like the HUD.

Within my budget I could only afford a couple of packs so went for tech and M sport plus.

I listen to talk sport but find myself playing Spotify quite a lot as it is integral to the car. I don't take my phone with me everywhere which in my other cars meant I was limited to music on a HD or the radio.

Holly plays whatever I ask so I'm a happy bunny.

I tend to go a bit mad with the options. The only one I’m disappointed with is the Wi-fi and that’s just because of the stupid contract options that t-mobile offer. Only slight regret is not upgrading the leather. I find them really comfortable but the Merino does look good.

My "essentials" were:

M-sport Pro Pack (wanted the adaptive suspension)
Harman Kardon sound (basic sound is appalling, as it is in all BMW's. HK isn't perfect, but better than standard)
Lumbar support (The fact that's not standard is a joke)
Driving Assistant Professional

I went for m sport pack(didn't want the pro due to never using adaptive on my Audi and the 19" are too harsh a ride. Love the black grill tho so just bought my own and fitting it for £60)
Sunroof and electric lumbar seats(seats should be standard surely)
Comfort pack
And added wireless charging and enhanced Bluetooth.

Agree the seats should be standard as should a wireless charging pad. The cost of a charge pad is almost insignificant, especially in view of all the connected drive, CarPlay etc.

If you're asking because of budget constraints, then I guess whatever option that includes the HUD, the Adaptive suspension and the iDrive professional is worth getting.

I have all the options in my car and I see myself using all of them during a normal week (except the towbar, of course), including the gesture control.

After having mentioned above that my G21 will have Merino seats, I'm now getting adverts for Merino wool sweaters on Facebook...

From what I understand about BMW in the past, pretty much everything was an optional extra that you had to pay for. More things are standard nowadays and they have provided packs to bundle options into a more manageable price. Like most things in life you can have what you want if you are prepared to pay for it.

Back to the original question about what options are worth getting, this is really down to what suits your needs and your pocket. Numerous options are there for the taking but they are a side show to how the car drives and performs imho. Think about what you need, then what you want and you won’t be disappointed.

I guess all that's left to say is "Thank you Bimmerpost for sending our data to Facebook!"

Log out from Facebook on your phone and use it only in Incognito Mode on your browser if you mind Facebook spying on you.

I accept that I'm going to see adverts if I want to keep most of the Internet free - I only use adblockers and anti-tracking software on websites that take the pi$$.

And if I'm going to see adverts I'd rather they be about things that I might have a vague interest in. That's really OK with me.

Plus there's the added bonus of a laugh when it all goes wrong, liks with the Merino seats/jumpers!
