less than 7 days until delivery and I'm freaking out because I'm afraid car thieves.

this is my first "desirable" car in a long time. Most of my other cars(Mercedes, Audi, Lexus) are/were nice, but none were flashy or desirable cars. my town isn't that safe and I know for a fact that there are car thieves targeting certain cars. Did not help that just last week, a nice new M5 was just stolen from the parking lot of the local mall. I think reading about it really got me to start worrying. Short of borrowing my neighbor's Tibetan Mastiff(almost 200 pounds) and having it sit in the car everywhere I go, what can I add to the car to deter thieves? |

With the advent of newer signal cloning devices and brute force theft, other than carrying personal protection and locking the car in the garage, if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen.
Try not to attract too much attention close to home. Watch your surroundings, hide your kids, hide your wife… Maybe it’s time to move somewhere else? |

it just occurred to me that it's not the money that I'm reaaly worried about... it's the possibility of having it stolen and then waiting another 8 to 10 months(or longer) for the replacement to arrive! these cars don't grow on the BMW trees, you know... |

my very first car was the old Mercedes 190E. It had no steering wheel airbag. I had a Momo steering wheel with instant-release installed. When in questionable neighborhoods.(anywhere below 47th street in New York City), I popped the steering wheel out and took it with me to my office. Back then, people didn't really think it was that weird. Plenty of people took one wheel off their bicycles and took it with them!

Thanks! That looks great! I was thinking about a hidden switch somewhere, but that device seemed to be even better. Or... I guess I can always just take the gas pedal with me whenever I leave the car. Just one torx screw. |

Talking from experience …. I got my M2 F87 stolen out of my driveway.. if is going to happen then it will happen. You can take precautions such as having a tracking system such as LoJack but overall just enjoy the moment and don’t think of what ifs. Btw I got mine recovered thanks to LoJack lol but now I have a G80 too

Not sure about USA but in the UK we have GAP insurance. Esentially, it’s an additional insurance which basically does what it’s named for. Covers the GAP in depreciation and current value of the car in the event car is totalled or stolen etc…. So essentially you get the full cost that you paid for the car back, not depreciated value.
Worth it on cars so expensive. |

Not worth it if you start off with solid equity or you build equity as you go. |

It’s not gonna be theft proof but it’ll prolong the theft or maybe make a thief think twice. But in reality if a thief wants the car they’ll get it. Nothing you can do.

If your town isn’t that safe, then I’d skip purchasing the M3 and instead look to move to a different town/city/state…

Might want to get one. Don’t think I’d get this car if I had street parking only, but… at least did you option all the cameras and the drive recorder? That’s really cool stuff for very little money. You can instantly see where your car is and remotely open all the cameras on the car and take a 360 picture of where and who is around your car at that second. The idrive recorder/cameras are cool. I would think there are things you can do technically to make your car undrivable without the key, but that may not help reduce damage to the vehicle if left parked on the street. No solutions there for street parking. If garage parked, get a big dog (or 3) and a gun (or 7). You can’t have too many garages, dogs, or guns. Works for me! |
