How rare is this?

My 2023 M340i has the optional carbon fiber roof and I haven’t seen (irl or online) with it besides like that one YouTube video. I’m just wondering if it’s rare.

I heard that some counties don’t have access to certain options which has had me thinking if it’s rare.

I’m in Canada btw.

Correct, the CF roof is rare on G20’s. I believe one year in the US did have the option upon special request, however, as you know, 99.9% of G20’s in North America have the standard moonroof.

I would say it's rare. Didn't even know it existed. I don't think it was an option in Australia and we got access to some options NA didn't.

Never heard of carbon roof being an option in Europe. Even for G80 M3 it is not common. So yours is rarer than rare

Yet this option is introduced in Europe around 2020, but no one takes it because the sunroof is more in demand, rare does not mean sought after, it also means no interest.

It looks awesome but I will take my sunroof any day of the week. It's open or cracked 90% of the time

That’s probably why it was discontinued for the MY24 model year in all markets where it used to be an available option. Its still an available option on the M440i coupe for the MY25 model year.

It’s probably also in less demand in Europe because you guys are able to order the M340i with a slicktop.

Or maybe you find a track junky that wants the lighter weight and/or no glass over there head type of car. I bet in a few years this car commands a premium over a sunroof car on BAT.

Hey, I answered you over on Reddit, cool to see you here.

But as for the resale value, two trains of thought: some people like unique, CF roofs. Others see higher value in the moon roof. Some CF roofs offer more headroom, and some moonroofs offer more headroom. Just make sure you keep that CF's clear coat waxed, because it often looks horrible when the clear coat starts to scratch, peel, or cloud up. Especially in Canada with ice and sleet sliding off and micro scratching it.

I just figured out how to reply lol. I think the moonroof mechanism alone is like 250 - 300lbs or something.

According to this old thread it’s much less then that. Its 50 lbs less then the steel roof with the sunroof and only 13 lbs lees then the slicktop.

So not much of a weight saving compared to the slicktop which we can’t get in Canada or the US.Looks good on your M340i in BG.Its a nice contrast.

If you scroll down you’ll see it’s actually more. I’m most definitely wrong with the 250 - 300lbs. This is my first car so I’m not too worried about weight savings and drag racing. I just love to the look of it and was wondering if it’s rare.

Wind noise is significantly reduced when there's no sunroof. That's one major positive.

I read the whole thread. The first guy said it was 13 lbs but that was compared to the slicktop which is the all steel roof. The second guy corrected him saying it was 50 lbs in weight saving compared to having the sunroof. If you do a quick google search it looks like it’s anywhere from 35 to 50 lbs in weight savings.

The 50 lbs is still substantial if your tracking the car.You also get the increased headroom if you are tall and track the car.

I agree that it looks great, especially on lighter colors like your BG M340i or Alpine White.

Excellent point.

OP, you might want to think about PPF.

I honestly love my moonroof on my G22 m440i but I wouldn’t think twice about giving it up for a CF roof… just way too cool looking. Especially if you have lots of CF bits on the car. Aesthetics and rareness outweighs in this scenario IMO
