Manual : by definition
1a : of, relating to, or involving the hands manual dexterity 1b : worked or done by hand and not by machine or electronics 2: requiring or using physical skill and energy 3: the prescribed movements in the handling of a weapon or other military item during a drill or ceremony 4: involving or using human effort, skill, power, energy, etc.; physical: It's definitely not for everyone especially for daily's but there is a real following for 3 pedals and thus more manipulation of the car And direct involvement with it.

Auto / Manual
At the risk of being sacreligious in this company - I have to say that the reason I use "manual" mode on my car - and by this I mean the paddles, is so that I can change gear when I want; and not when the car / computer wants.
The reason I used to like clutched, traditional manual transmissions is because autos were clunky and slow - as evidenced by their 0-60 times -- always a couple of tenths slower than the proper manual box. But since the 335i (DCT) and now my 440i (not DCT but see below) the auto box in "manual" mode is faster, slicker and easier to use. I can left-foot brake all the time which gives me faster reactions on the brakes and the paddles are intuitive. Also, now, the 0-60 is faster on the auto box. Around town when I'm not racing, and just sitting in traffic the auto box saves a load of clutch up-and-down and just makes life easier. I honestly don't see why I'd want to go back to an H-gate stick shift. What would I gain?? |

This has not been your typical manual vs. auto debate and this version has had some subtleties, including is the DCT a variation of auto or a variation of manual haha.

A slight return to the transmission debate - if it is DCT or 6MT, I'm happy with either. If it is ZF8 or 6MT, I'm picking 6MT everyday.

Would you be more likely to sway to a 2 pedal if a DCT was still offered?

Having had numerous versions of both, I respectfully disagree.
The DCT can also be tactile and involving - it’s just different than the experience of the MT. And I can understand why people love each...but the DCT and PDK are far from the dim witted ZF, for example. Just my opinion.
